I just got a call to day to work in Winston Salem (about 25 miles) on a contract. Not much pay for this type of work, but it's better than what I was about to get....nothing!

I will be working with PC support and hardware issues. It may last from 2-3 weeks to 2-3 months.

I'll be starting today at noon!

That's Great!

I am so happy for you, Boyd. I know
it's got to be a relief and I hope it's the
longer amount of time that you will be
working. Prayers answered for a job.
Now, it's time to pray for a long-term
job. Let us know how the first day goes.
Blessings!
Nancy

Faaaaaaantastic! I think many of us know what its like to live paycheck to paycheck trying to not only get by, but get ahead so we can better our lives by taking chances and the big risks. I guess we'll all have to place our hands on the computer screen and give you a prayer for success in this new job.

It's great to hear, Boyd. You guys have been on my mind lately, with your financial situation.

Hey, stop by my step-daughter's house one day and say "Hello". THAT should go over good!!

God Bless
Kevin

Sometimes, that is how a more permanent position is found.

Thank you everyone

My first day went great! Turned out, the team leader is a man I worked with before at my first account in '97-99. He was an IBM tech and a lady there was also one that was laid off with him a couple of years ago. They both had a tough time looking for work as well. When he got a good position, he had her hired on. Both are very good.

Now I walk in (I was preinformed he was the supervisor) and I watched their faces when they saw me! Sort of a "double-take" look!

I am there to help them catch up with some tickets, mainly hardware issues. Fixed at least four or five of them yesterday. They were impressed.

I chatted with them about the account, unlikey it will last more than two months at best. But thats ok, I can do two months, find something else. At least I will have a good record with the new contract company. This is my first account with them. The other contract company has not called in a while.

Tech work here is very low, was one the things mentioned in the news the other day as a problem here. Dell is building a new plant in Winston Salem, they had over 3000 applications for tech workers like me!

Even my supervisor, with all his experience, didn't get on! He was number two of over 800 applications for management!

YIKE!

Thats OK, I wasn't really holding my breath for the Dell jobs. I just assume keep doing contract and building my sign and automotive graphic business.

Thanks for your concerns and prayers!

I'm not getting as much as I used to, but it gets me out of the house, from pacing the floor, and driving Gwin nuts!

Boyd

May this be the first step to greater and better things. Who knows what the Lord had in store for you. This may be just the first step to a great full time job. God bless, Wally

Good luck

May it last a long time. Known lots of folks who took a temporary job that lasted until they retired.

Here's another one for you for our local Piedmont Valley Community College: (excerpt from my note last night to this woman who wants me to put something about their hort classes in our master gardener newsleter)

"By the way, since you have connections to PVCC, please pass the following to whomever is in charge of the PVCC student user web site. The PVCC student user web site is a piece of junk and virtually unusable by anyone who can't have a knowledgeable buddy help them through it (e.g. someone who knows how to use it). My wife tried to take a course on the basics of Windows and Microsoft Office through PVCC. She was directed to use the web site to do this. She couldn't figure it out. So, I (a user of computers for 45 years) tried to help her get the course she wanted. I couldn't figure it out. She has since gotten a course through CATEC. PVCC is discouraging a lot of people off computers and probably losing some students because of its sorry web site. I took an on-line HTML course through PVCC 2 or 3 years ago. It was okay then.

Another thing: The computer system would not take my wife's name, which is legally just 2 initials. She had to input her maiden name in between. We have since gotten some mail from someone who apparently got the information off your computer system and tried to sell us something."
