Greetings from San Antonio

Just wanted you all to know that I did make it in on Sunday evening and got things
unloaded. It's going to take a while to get my room set up...and find everything. One
day...I hope. I spent yesterday afternoon at the "doc-in-the-box" to find out that I had
indeed broken my knuckle and a bone to my middle finger on Friday afternoon. It doesn't
feel good at all.

I go to Dallas in the morning for my doctor's appointment up there and I'm looking forward to
spending about 36 hours with a friend of mine. He's already asked me what kind of liquor I
want him to pick up to have at the house. I hope I find the plane on Thursday! I let you all
know what happens.

Mom and Dad are already driving me crazy. I predict that they will know before the end of the
week that I now sleep nude. Two mornings in a row one of them have come in without knocking.
Oh well, better sooner than later?

Hope all of you are well.

Who'd you hit?

We in the monkey gallery would love to know whom you hit to break your hand and finger.

My dad used to come in and yank the covers off me. He found me naked at times. Never did say anything about it.

Good luck in Big D.

The monkey gallery will love this. I didn't hit anyone.
I came up hard under the dashboard of the car, hit the
top of my hand (which swelled immediately), and apparently
jammed my finger enough to splice vertically the bone between the
knuckle and the second joint. I'm in a splint and soft cast for a
few weeks.

Perhaps I was thinking of my parents at the time though. Knocking
still isn't in their vocabulary even with the doctor closed. My father
just barged in. They may learn about naturism this week too.

First let me correct one error in my reply, Ralph. "Doctor" should read "door."
Sorry.

Second, I forgot to mention that my biggest problem the next few weeks is
the possibility of being shot from someone's car for them mistakingly thinking
I'm "shooting" a finger at them. It's the middle finger that I fractured. The
splint on it is so big, it could be mistaken by someone around here.

I'm leaving at 9:30 in the morning for Dallas. I'll let you all know about the
doctor when I return on Thursday. And of course more adventures with, "Today We Will
Learn How to Knock."

Welcome back

And here is the important question:
Did you hit your valve pushing finger?

You don't seem too stressed out about the finger situation, so I am assuming, or at least hoping on hope that it was your other hand.

Thank You

No, it wasn't the left hand responsible for the valves.
It was indeed the right hand. I can still sign checks,
my signature at the doctor's office, etc. But, it's going to
give me an awful strange sound the next few weeks, as
it's the right hand that fits into the bell of the horn.

Welcome to The Lone Star State!

Welcome to the big state of Texas!!! I hope things go well at the doctors. I wouldn't worry about the parents finding out that you sleep nude. As an adult, that's a pretty adult decision. Plus, you've been on your own for a while, so it shouldn't be a surprise. I know it can be difficult, though. Good luck, and keeps us informed.

Ahhh, Yes, Parents

August 2 2005, 11:06 PM

It seems like we never grow up in our parents eyes. It took being married 10 years before my father wouldn't open the door signaling it was time to get up in the morning when I would visit alone. He had it fixed that you got up by a certain time and if you were going to stay up or out late, you would just lose sleep. He couldn't seem to understand that if I was visiting, I was on vacation and if I stayed up late watching cable (we didn't and don't have it), it was O.K. because no work. I always had the feeling that I never got much older after I moved out at about 24. I pretty much stopped aging and stayed at my late teens with him since my two brothers were nearby and aged with them. We were going to borrow the car once in Peoria and I think he waschecking the mileage before we left...just like high school (LOL). Of course, in the later years, the Alzheimers took its toll and I can see in hindsight how early it started.

It'll probably take a while for them to see you as an adult. Of course, if your father rips off the covers when he barges in, he'll see you as an adult much sooner than expected.
