Switched to AVG

I got tired of ole slow McAfee antivirus and firewall. So, I switched to the free AVG. My system picked up the Windows XP firewall. Somehow, there's a pop-up blocker in all this, too. Everything's working fine.

It's tough to find the free AVG offering on the Grisoft web site. Doesn't seem to be a menu item for it. Just type "free" (without quotes) in their search box, and you'll get the page to download the free version.

I've been using.....

AVGFree for several years now. I often recommend it to people i meet during the day. I also install AVGFree into the computers I work on unless the owner states otherwise. I agree that finding the download for AVGFree is not easy to find. I t wasn't always that difficult to find the download for AVGFree. My how things have changed over the years. Espescially since Grisoft has really started putting on the high pressure, (so to speak), sales presentations of their other offerings. The last time I looked, the overall cost of even subscribing to Grisoft's services is a far cry cheaper then most of the other Manufacturers out there, and in MHO, Grisoft has a much suprior product than most.

One can simply go to Grisoft's home page:

http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1

and then click on the word "AVG PRODUCTS", just above the word: "SALES & REGISTRATION", then scroll down to and click on the words "AVG Free Edition", "Download" section, near bottom (third section from bottom), of that page and click on the words "AVG Free Website"..........................

Forget all that.....this is easier........paste and copy this URL,

into your browser's address bar and scroll down to the bottom of that page to the words:

"AVG Free for Windows installation files"

"File" "Version
"avg71free_371a669.exe" "7.1.371"

Then click on the words:

" avg71free_371a669.exe "

Again, this is a great tool, and the best part is............................................................................it is............................................FREE....updates automatically everyday. Even catches the latest Sober varient. It automatically removes and quarantines infected attachments.

I also recommend using......

"Zone Alarm" firewall from "ZoneLabs". The free firewall from "ZoneLabs" is very good, and the price is right......FREE!!!

For those who access their emails through email clients such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, etc, I recommend using "Spamihilator". I use it for eliminating all spam from my four email accounts. The price????.........FREE!!!

For ridding your computer from spyware I recommend using "Spybot Search & Destroy" and "Ad Aware". Both are free and both do a very good job of ridding one's computer of spyware.

And there you have it......Five easy to use, and FREE!!!! tools to help one keep one's computer clean and safe......

"Zone Alarm Basic"

"AVGFree"

"Spamihilator"

"Ad Aware"

"Spybot Search & Destroy"

And best of all, the price is right up my alley..........!!! FREE !!!

I've been using all these tools for about 5 years now, and my computer has never had any nasty problems that required major troubleshooting or repair/reinstallation of OS.
