Ohhhh Noooooo, Mr. Bill! I had a few moments of near panic when I first loged on. I thought someone had stolen all the messages. I had no problem with the old look. I found it easy to scan all the threads for new posts, or ones I hadn't read. It was quick! I can adapt to this look, but I won't like it---too much dragging across the screen, then open the thread and scroll down. What a drag!! Michael
...I like it! Sure, it takes a little time to get used to the new look (maybe 5 seconds in my case :D), but it's easier to scan the threads--oops, strips! threads are for textiles!--quickly with this format. Thanks, Boyd!
I've never liked this type of message orginazation, and almost completely ignore boards that are arranged in this way.
To me, the previous style is a much easier way of following posts- I can scan through the whole board with one roll of my little mouse wheel and know exactly what I have and haven't read in one glance. I can follow strings, knowing who responded to what, and even pick and choose what to read and what not to read.
I don't know if this is your choice or not Boyd, but for one I would be extremely disappointed if this is a permanent change.
As always... just my opinions. Take 'em for what they're worth.
I like the old format better. I could look down the list to see if anything new had been added. With this format the only way I can see if something had been added is to write down the total messeges and see if any had been added, then have to go through all the previous messages to get to them. Just my humble opinion for what it is worth.
I'm all for seeing how this format works out, but the old structure was easy to move down the messages and replies like stair steps and see what the dates were so I knew what the latest post was.
Yeah...I'm in agreement with the majority, at least so far it seems to be the majority. I'm not a big fan of this layout. I did prefer the old layout, less click-through process I suppose. This layout just takes too many clicks to fight through the structure of it. Perhaps the old layout did seem a bit messy, but it provided an easy overview of the threads and if the threads were changing topics within the conversation you could tell at a glance by the titles of the new posts. Personally, I prefer the old system...but, that is my opinion - take it or leave it!
To those complaining, look to the date label out to the right. This shows the date of the last post to that topic/thread.
I just didn't like the old way because it tended to wander off in never-never land of side strings. You go into a side string and couldn't get back to the main, etc.
I didn't like that last one at all. It took a while to figure out how to get into it. This one is slightly better than the first one. With the original one everything was jumbled together, and it was difficult to tell what was new. Of course, it still is. The only way to tell what is new with this one is to scroll down and check all the dates. I like forums that TELL you what's new. I don't have to look through everything to make sure I don't miss anything.
One the old style board, anything that I had read previously was highlighted a differant color than anything that I hadn't read, and so at a glance I could see anything new. When Boyd changed the layout, that all disappeared, and I had to read all the dates to the right- a much longer process. Also, like others have said, any new post would look like a reply to the original, no matter which message in the whole string it had been a reply to. Lastly, again having been said before, you had to scroll down through the whole list of posts to see anyting new instead of having direct access.
This second change is very similar to the original layout, and in my opinion better, but still not as good as the original. I don't know why there was any need for a change anyway... this board was always such a refreshing differance from every other cookie-cutter message board out there. It looked like there was actually some thought and spirit behind the look... but that's just my opinion...
When you remove the cached information or the cookies in your system, it will remove all the stuff you have previously seen and treat it as if you have not seen it.
Did you do that Kevin? It will all come back eventually after you have started reading them again.
