This is the painting I have been working on. My first attempt wasn't good, so I repainted it.

It's a lot better than I could ever do.

Boyd,

Was this what you were thinking of?

Re: Oil Painting....No...

It was commissioned by a PC associate for a banjo player that he knows. He wants to give it to him for his Christmas gift.

He just asked me to do a painting of him with a banjo. He didn't tell me how except that he didn't want a large painting.

This one is 12"x16". I prefer larger canvanses because I can do more detail, but this is good practice here.

Not a bad likeness, Boyd! Is there a title?

No Title

No title. It's a commissioned job. The photo of the painting doesn't do it justice. I didn't realize how badly a digital camera can ruin an oil panting.

I had to go outside to get another photo in sunlight, and it still isnt' good.

He gave me a picture of him to go by. I took the face and did the portrait and found some pictures of banjos to design the banjo. Then blended them together into a style with a starry background to give it some depth.

Keep it up

Boyd,

There's only so many hours in the day, but painting is a worthwhile endeavor that is time well spent.
I like what you have done and encourage you to continue with it.

In the old days, churches had stained glass windows because people who could not read could learn Bible stories from the images on the glass.

When I reflect on the church where I grew up, I can still remember the glass image of Jesus praying in the garden, but I struggle to remember anything from the sermons.

A thousand words

A picture is worth a thousand words they say. I guess that picture of Jesus was the thousand words the preachers could not say.
