I wish that was the reason for me, but man it's just been too cold to even think about here lately. We are experiencing a little heat wave now though, it almost got up to 50 today.
Its cold here, too. I've been staying dressed more...wife likes the cold and likes to keep the thermostat down, and not just because she prefers I wear clothes either. Our temps at night have been in the teens. It just turned cold, too, and that is unusual. Until last week, it had been in the 70s...unusually warm.
We've been extra busy with the holidays and all. I guess everyone has. November and December are always busy months for us though.
We had two Thanksgiving dinners this year. That was nice, but the extra weight isn't. Good thing I'm working out at the Y almost every day. After the second dinner, our youngest son put his arm through a window and had to have 10 stitches. We were in the E.R. for 5 hours, mostly waiting. You can see the stitches and read about it in my Yahoo blog at http://blog.360.yahoo.com/greg_pc
Now we're gearing up for Christmas. We've decorated, of course. Our oldest son wanted lights along our fence this year. We had the lights aready, so I didn't mind it. My wife insisted we get it done right away though, i.e. while it was cold, rainy and windy. That was fun! At least, it looks nice.
This week was my wife's birthday. We already had a birthday dinner at her sister's place. We have another birthday dinner for her tomorrow night at my parents' place. Then our middle son has a birthday next Friday. He's having two parties, too...a kids' party Friday night (some kids sleeping over afterwards) and a family party the following Sunday. Its a good thing I like cake. Too bad I can't go nude...then I could have my cake and eat it (nude) too. LOL
Today, we bought a new dog, actually a puppy. Rather than repeat myself, if you care to know more, you can read about it in my Yahoo blog, and see a picture of her, too. I didn't really want the dog at first, because I feel we have enough going on in our lives.
Now aren't you glad you said, "Shhhh..."? Sorry if I bored ya. I guess I just felt a little chatty tonight. How about you all?
Well, I'm glad somebody is chatting! It is getting slow here!
But with busy lives like you got, it's no wonder you have to have two of everything! Two Thanksgiving dinners, two birthday dinners...for each birthday...two Christmas dinners?
I'm sure the weather warmed up and looked wonderful right after you got the lights put up and turned on!
I put up some lights around my side porch. Not much, but it does look welcoming. I'm not about to climb the roof to put up lights. I'm not like these characters (characatures) on TV who like to compete and blow out the breakers trying to impress the neighbors!
We do have a couple of neighborhoods that get not only each others attention, but the attention of three major cities to come around and look every year! I'm sure Duke Power (NC) loves them!
I took the brush hog blades off yesterday morning, then had to put the spare onto the pickup for CJ to take to Focus (volunteer work). Her car wasn't driveable (actually, it is) because a couple of the glow plugs went out (first time in 23 years; ain't bad) and the glow light indicator doesn't work. She normally takes the "truck" anyway. It decided to pick up a piece of wood in its tire. I gave her the job of taking it to the tire repair place, and that's what they said.
I decided the brush hog needed new bolts on the blades, as they hadn't stayed really tight (not loose, just not really tight). Couldn't find any at TSC, and JD was closed. So, I came home and stripped off in the sunshine and put the trail wheel back on the hog and ran it sans blades down below where I disconnected it and put the carryall on.
Had hopes of getting an outdoor shower, but some ice was still in some parts of the system from the 14-15 degrees we had that morning. Recharged my hair clipper in hopes of doing my hair this afternoon, which is supposed to be up to 57. Hoping for an outdoor shower then to wash the stray hairs off.
Gotta be spiffy for our master gardener Xmas party tomorrow night. I'm master gardener of the year! Already been told.
I have a good reason! We went out of town to pick up our new Dachshund puppy! Her name is Phoebe. She is terminally, totally cute/loveable, with a wonderful calm disposition. Someday, she will become a great therapy dog. (The cat isn't yet quite certain about all this). Michael
Apparently it's puppy season around here! Not only have a couple of you guys mentioned getting new puppies, but my parents have sold 3 this past weekend (Siberian Husky pups)! I ended up taking most of the calls throughout the weekend and sending various emails, etc. It was sad to see them go, but good to know they were going to people who seemed to really care for them.
Better not let my daughter see this tread about puppies! She wants one so bad, but my wife doesn't, plus we are never home enough to be fair to a dog, but our daughter just doesn't understand that!
Children don't understand all the responsibility of taking care of an animal--especially a puppy or kitten that's pretty much helpless. Mom or dad ends up taking care of it.
True, the bulk of the responsibility usually ends up on the parents' shoulders (but you have to be consistent in making sure that you delegate that responsibility to the kid, if they were the one that wanted it). However, I think that the joy and companionship that a pet brings to the family is irreplaceable. Pets also provide a wonderful teaching tool to teach kids respect and responsibility, as well as unconditional love.
We had our master gardener Christmas party last night. It was especially good last night because I received the Master Gardener of the Year award!
Hey, Boyd. I couldn't find a "post" button; so, I'm using a "respond to this note" under Laura's post.
Was able to take mulch down to the garden sans clothes yesterday again. There was marvelous sunshine down there while spreading the mulch in the morning. Fired up my outdoor shower afterwards. That concrete pad is getting cold though!
