The power at my parents' house went out for about an hour and a half or so one day when I was still down there. Then I get back to my apartment and a couple of days ago, my power goes off for about 30 minutes - and that was even before the 8"+ of snow! While I'm sure your week of being without power has been quite the headache, I've grown to appreciate having power and all the appliances that make life so much easier...when they have the juice!
My Mom has only had a short power blip in all the ice storms they've had in Oklahoma. My sister and BIL are there now. Mom has a backup catalytic propane stove to warm the house in case of power failure.
Our backup here is our generator and a couple small heaters that can be run off the generator, plus wood to put in the 3 fireplaces. Have never had to go to backup heat, but have had to run the generator on several occasions.
