Porn And Booze 'Smuggled' To Troops Thursday November 30, 11:07 AM
British soldiers have been smuggling pornography and alcohol into strict Muslim countries, a newspaper has claimed. Ministry of Defence chiefs have imposed rules on what troops can receive from Britain to avoid upsetting their "hosts" in Afghanistan and Iraq. But prohibited goods are being sneaked past military police in Christmas parcels sent from soldiers' families, The Sun said.
It alleged raunchy lads' magazines that are banned in Muslim countries are being concealed in the outer covers of more innocent publications, like Autocar.
Another trick is to copy pornographic DVDs then disguise them with labels from less risqué films like The Sound of Music, the Sun said.
To beat a booze ban, Listerine mouthwash bottles are emptied and filled with vodka mixed with blue or green food dye, it was claimed.
An unnamed RAF airman was quoted as saying: "Anybody working in a branch of Boots near an RAF base must think our lads have the best dental hygiene in NATO.
"One or two bottles of mouthwash don't go far when its split between 20 of your mates.
"Its not about getting legless, its all about getting one over the daft Government rules that treat us like kids."
Most British soldiers in the war zones can have a maximum of two cans of beer a day on their base.
Families are allowed to send a 2kg care parcel to troops in the war zones free of charge.
