For those of our readers not versed in Cockney Rhyming Slang, allow me to explain Mick's (albeit misspelled) allusion:

"Buchers" (properly rendered "butcher's") refers to a butcher's hook - rhyming with 'look'.

Ergo: 'have a quick butcher's at this...' mean have a quick look at this...; cf. 'Shufty'.

And on next week's show, we'll be looking at colons, semi-colons, ellipses, parenthesis, gerunds and declensions

Hi Mick,
Yes I have seen "Ong Bak" it and also his Movie "Tom Yum Goong" released here as the "Protector" ".
(Ong Bak 2 is to be released soon)

I like his fighting style and action.
(He is ranked in Tae Kwon Do,his primary art, then for the movies he learned Muay Thai, and some others pieces of other arts)

He films along the lines of Jackie Chan,no stunt doubles,no wires,he can do what you see.

He will be the new wave of movie Martial Art Greats.

Oi! You cheated and edited your original post!

Mick mate, you know my thoughts on the massively choreographed dance routines that pass themselves off as 'Martial Arts' in films - and yes, I include Bruce Lee in that too.

Why is it that 50 guys take on one guy - and he always kicks their arses without getting so much as a scratch? Perhaps it's got something to do with the fact that when seven of them surround the 'hero' at once, they all patiently wait their turn to wade in instead of - as in real life - piling in en-masse and kicking the bejesus out the 'hero' in quick-sticks?!

One-on-one I'll grant you - that's a discipline - but the the sad acts who take their cue from the films need to get out more.

Having been in a few street altercations, one of which was approximately 10 older teens/young 20 year olds on me alone.

I can tell you that from my experiences they they do not fight as a group, they fight more or less one at a time unless they get you standing still to take you from front and rear at the same time and or down so they can boot you.

As long as you stay up,hit and move and keep moving you have a chance.

In the 10 on 1, I caught one of them and stopped to choke him from behind a light pole, and I thought I had stayed in one place for too long, probably 2 seconds,I stepped right and got cought from behind with a knife cut up and under my jacket slicing open my tricep on the under side of my left arm.(had I stayed still that would have been in the left side rear of my upper back)

The fight started because I was sitting in the back of a bus when they got on and apparently didn't get up to give them my seat.
When I got up to get off they piled out after me.

They lined up in a sort of half cirlce, the biggest one said he had a gun and they were going to do me,so I charged him, kicked him in the bladder and he dropped and that took them by surprise and it was on,punching them, grabbing them, running them down and they coming at me,punching and striking me.

It ended as they found they had to fight to get me and they were not doing well so they ran off.

This happened in the middle of the afternoon in a crowded area.
No one helped,no one did anything except an old Black women who yelled for them to leave me be.
A Police car had also passed, looked and kept on going.

If you have no choice to fight then flip the switch and fight, take it to them and let the end be what ever it ends up.

Just because it is more than one or a group does not mean you do not have a chance.

Having worked as a doorman on and off since 91, I can say its easier to fight/deal with a group than it is one on one.

Also, if the attacker has a weapon, be it a knife or bottle its easier to deal with them as well.

When in a pack, they do all wait for the first one to move, and if your confident and hve the ability you can control the fight. If you end up on the ground them your done for.

With a weapon, I have found that all the attacker wants to do is use that weapon. At thier comfortable distance.
(Especially if drunk, as a drunk will stop when your in focus) a step forward or back can be enough for them to back off. But genuinly speaking if the attacker has a weapon he will only want to use that weapon, so you only need o worry about one thing. If no weapon is being used, the attack could come from, feet, fists, head etc.

I have been in more fights than I care to mention while doing that job, hooligans, drunks, Aberdeen casuals, and hard fuckers. Luckily, I have never taken a kicking. This is down to working with a good team and being confident in my ability. I have seen many punters get a kicking tho as most street fights end up on the floor. Once that happens, its EndEx.

Right I'm up soon, so stay safe and spread the love. x

Fuckin' hell! I'm impressed with you lot! Jim your description of: "No one helped,no one did anything except an old Black women who yelled for them to leave me be.
A Police car had also passed, looked and kept on going." reminds me of London.

p.s. Tommy, there's nowt wrong with 'The Bruce'. The man is a cult icon!

Nice show of street boxing.
An agreed to fight with rules,a ref and the ability to walk away.
I train to close the gap,not stand off and exchange, but get inside his weapons and attack joints like the knees, elbows, target the groin, bladder and from the collar bone up.
Most intial strikes in a real street encounter are a wild haymaker/Hook,or overhand strike with a weapon or not, trying for that knock out or kill shot.
Nice clip as it shows the amount of punishment the body can take.

Aside from the traditional art of Hapkido which I do,I have done other arts but the Military combatives fit in with my hapkido and are street usable and fast.
One Man whose materials I have purchased has techniques similar to what I did and learned in the Marine corps and the Army
Bob Spour, some of you may have heard of him

Here are some clips (with others available on youtube) in which he shows and describes the mindset and techniques (Jap Slaping / WWII combatives)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXvSgvrEjJg&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7U6xug85i0

They are quick to learn and easy to implement.
He also teaches and Demos Muay Thai materials on Youtube.

Have a Butcher's
lol

Nice materials shown on the video clip.

That is Bruce Lee's Jeet kune Do,specifically Paul Vunaks Version.

I like his detail on the use of Body weight and the foot drop/stomp as was applied in WWII Combatives and early martial arts but has been lost in recent years,( ITF Tae Kwon do has tried to institute a version of the drop but they call it the sine wave, which is more body movemnet over body dropping into the target)

I am disappointed in that after he demos it,the drop step, he neglects to use it on the rest of his entries.
(if one does not train to use the materials ,then they will not be there when needed)

I like his approach and teaching style, like Vunak, his material is NOT an exchange of combat,(Exchange meaning he kicks or strikes and backs out giving the opponent a chance,as in sport) but he trains to overwhelm the opponent and end the conflict quickly, which is always Good.

Nice clips

The last clip, posted by Foxy, is called Parkour.

Here are some UK Lads having fun.http://www.metacafe.com/watch/293774/parkour_free_running/

I have been a viewer of Parkour for a while,though not a participant,lol.

They did a whole show on some Parkour guys doing their thing in and around some of the well known sites of London.

I watched the whole documentary called 'Jump London" about 4 years ago.

There are some Great segments on You tube under parkour Jump London or Jump London.

Some Royal Marines (PTI's) under Captain Lerewill,SP?
have begun to use and implement Parkour.

Here are some more clips of Parkour:
