Smell, please help......

Ok, here is my problem. I have three rats that I just recently acquired on Friday. They are all female Himalayans. Anyway, My mom doesn't want me to keep them because she thinks that they smell. I know that the rats themselves don't smell, their bedding (when clean) doesn't smell either. The thing that smells is their waste and the food they eat (specialized rat mix). So what I am really asking is, what kind of bedding is the best for soaking up smells? and what kind of food is the least smelly?

I have my rats on pine now. I also have three open containers of baking soda to obsorb the smell. I am also changing the bedding everyday. Right now I am keeping the rats in a 20 gallon long tank, but I hope to be getting one of those ferret/guinea pig cages soon.

thanx in advance.
