ya know that message by jan is really good; you should follow her advice. and if you want your rat to like your hand just as a start, give it treats by hand! use a glove though. my rat loves sunflower seeds. give him about 3-5 treats in one sitting, and do all this about three times a day. it sounds like your rattie has been through some kind of traumatizing experience, so don't get mad at him. or maybe it's a smell on your hand that he knows; like if at some time he was traumatized by a cat, and you have the smell of a cat on your hands, he might freak out and bite. but no matter what the reason for his behavior, every rat has a kind, loving, and actively innocent heart, so good luck to you and yours! give him a treat for me! -lila mo
