Hey Girlie Girl. Nice to meet you. Because the time zones are different you think everybody's gone when really they are just sleeping. In case you were wondering my mommy told me that. I did not think of that all on my own. Hmmmmm I wish I had energy! You sound like Trixi. I only met Trixi briefly. It was kind of a hit and run. Well my fat little legs are worn out from all that typing so I have got to go.

Hiiiiiiiii! I'm a fast, hyper little rat. Yesterday David let me climb on the couch. I went from one side of the couch to the other in less than a second! And guess what! On Thursday, I'll be four in rattie years! That means I'll have to use my whole hand to count to my age! Yay! Oh, try to find out my birthday using that information, it's really easy! How old are you other ratties? I heard Nibbles was 72 when he passed on. That's old! And David says there's a Nibbles Jr. on this site named after Nibbles! Is he still around? I'd like to meet him! I am literally laughing my @$$ off at this! Okay, we went to a pet store today to buy stuff for Snowball, and I got into this discussion of rats with one of the employees. I told him my first rat died when he was two and he replied: "You know, rats really need to be neutered if they're going to live longer, they can live for five years if you do." Now, I know this is total BS, because Nibbles died of myco, and would have anyway even if I had him neutered. It's just hilarious that they would hire somebody who doesn't know squat about rats. They even had rats in the store there. By the way, I mentioned to my mom that Snowball could use a companion and she said no. Maybe later. My dad says that any pet (especially a dog) becomes part of the family and everyone loves it. Of course, to every rule there's an exception, and my mom is it. One of my friends' mom used to hate rats but then he got Moe. When I showed her Snowball she was oozing with excitement. Anyway, g2g fast. ttyl,
Does anyone know the mathematical dimensions of an acre? My parents have no clue, but they're looking at this really cool house with a 2-acre backyard, and if we get a house on an acreage, we can get a dog! I'm so excited about that. Anyway, if anyone knows for sure, that'd be great!
I have a golden retriever! Her name is Lucy and she's very sweet. You really should get one.
Maybe it's in my planner.....I'll go check...............not there...maybe it's in the dictionary........ok, an acre is equal to 4840 square yards, and 43560 square feet. So thats.....69 by 69 yards, 208 by 208 feet.

Well first off neutering rats is VERY VERY UNSAFE!!!! Well called OSU medical center to ask. It can go good but very often they rat get killed in the operation or in a complicatoin after the surgery. But even though that guy is very ignorant I guess he was trying to help. The petshop I go to is awesome! They even treat their feeder rats with care. It is not a big chain petshop like Petsmart. They really love the animals.
Well yeps Lila is right about the acre thing. My grandma has like 13 acres. We bring our Choclate Labrador there to play. I love the retrivers. One of the big reasons we got a lab not a golden is because of the hair! We just don't have the time to brush it. They are really pretty though.
Trixi helped yet another rat phobic person yesterday. My friend came over to my house and I asked if she wanted to see my little pets. She was like sick you have rats ! Then she saw Trixi's pretty little face. I was like well let's get her out. My friend ended up even holding her. Trixi is such a good rat sweet and pretty. I never want to lose her. I know that day will come. Oh yeah,my friend just adores my guinea piggie. C'mon who doesn't love a cute little piggie.

As cute as all of our rats are, it's when they're babies that people love them. We had a church get together when I had very young babies, so i out them in the travel cage with a nice blanket and showed them to everyone. Everyone thought they were baby mice or bunnies or something. I said, no way, these are all rats.
I felt kinda bad though cause a little girl held them and i told her she should wash her hands. Her mother heard and looked very white. To her it meant that rats had deadly germs i quess. She watched her daughter wash her hands, checking for throughness...

Somethings missing from my cage!!!!!!!!! THe last time I saw Robin, he was laying on the second floor, just outside the little house. I know he had a good time with me. he was already sick and about to become food. Poor Robin, I wish he would come back, me and Jan are very sad.
OK,well I know you were not referring to me as the friend you were missing,but uh I really like you and we could be better friends! Trixi wanted me to tell you that she sends deepest sympathy.
Robin passed away last night. I only had him for 3 months. but He was already a year old, when I got him/ Well, at least he got to play with some toys and eat some tasty goodies before he went. Unlike at a pet shop. I am so sad. . but have taken my usual stance and shed my tears for him for one night and will not look back at this sad time.

I would try to find a cure for myco if I wasn't so (forgive my language) damn bored with health. I thought being a vet would be nice, but careers class made me realize I would suck at it. I'm much better off designing computer and/or video games.
I'd have been better off asking my dad for advice. I think I will, only he's asleep right now. I also don't want my little brother to know just yet. I'm waiting for some one-on-one time with my dad where I can get the courage to ask him. I've had many chances, but I've blown them all. Anyway, I guess I'll do that tomorrow. I gotta go do homework.

i am not a guy, i am female, and i DO NOT have a "stick up my butt". first of all, i gave poilte, honest advice. second of all, i post here quite regularly and if i were you, i would be more polite to those who do. you're obviously a minor and can't appreciate advice given by those who are of age. once again, my advice was honest, kind, and not offensive in any way. HOWEVER, your reply and harsh language towards another literary rat post-er has been rude, immature, and inappropriate.
It's just that she's my friend. I know what I would do if I just had a hint, but if I screw up, and she doesn't like me as more than a friend, she'll definetely (damn, I never can remember how to spell definetely) think I'm psyco and then I'm screwed. Then again, I do know her e-mail and phone number. Of course, my mom monitors my e-mail like a hawk, but she really should lighten up. I'm thirteen, for goodness sake! Off topic: today I spoke my mind to my mom about what school I go to after we move, and I meant it. I know it may sound like I'm being close-minded, but I'm not. Today I visited the school she's thinking strongly about, and I don't like it. I've lived in that area before, and I had friends at the school I want to go to. I also have a very good friend who told me all about the school I like. I like it SO much better, but my mom doesn't know about getting help for my brother, who's dyslexic. I'm just so frustrated, but it sounds like I'm finally getting a say in things. Back on topic: I think it'd be better to use the phone, but I've never called a girl before, and if her mom picks up we'll get our privacy invaded completely, so I'm hoping for (bah, may as well say her name) Rachel to pick up. I know I like her, because whenever she walks by me in English class, I can't help but stare at her absentmindedly. And I find myself trying to impress her without thinking. Stupid hormones. By the way, can you tell by the title that I am a HUGE Simpsons fan. The shirt I'm wearing right now has Homer on it. Season 15 starts November 2, 8:00 eastern on FOX. Season premeir is Treehouse of Horror 14, where Homer turns into the grim reaper, Jerry Lewis guest voices as Professor Frink's soon-to-be-brought-back-alive father, and Bart and Milhouse to a spiff of Clockstoppers. I don't know about the episode after it, but another new one will be airing, too, right after it.

Okay, most of you out there are girls (and I mean the humans, like I said, this message has nothing to do with rats), right? Well, I need help!!!
Okay, there's this friend of mine, right? And she's a girl, you follow? Well, I think I like this girl as more than just a friend, and I think she might be the same but I don't know for sure. How can I tell?
First, normally I'd probably just ask her to the movies, but she's my friend, and if I just go ahead and ask her out she'll think I'm an idiot. But, if she likes me, I have nothing to fear.
Here are the stats:
*She and I are both 13, her about a month older.
*She went to Hawaii a few weeks ago and brought me a souvenier (one of those lays or something, like those plastic ones but made of seashells). Of course, she gave one to two other guys, too.
*She laughs every time I tell a joke (but so do my other friends).
*Last week she and I walked into the lunchroom chatting, and she followed me to my usual table to put her stuff down, then she sat next to me after we got our food.
*Today during the computer club we're in, she said to someone else, "I'm only here because he's," (points to me), "interesting to talk to. He tells funny jokes."
*Last Friday we chose new seats in history and she and I chose seats next to each other.
*(this one's big) Today we both had to go down to the HAL (High Ability Learner) room to choose the activities we want to do. I was in there a minute before her and she chose the one empty seat next to me at a table full of guys when she could have sat anywhere else in the room. She was also in the seat next to the wall, so the only person she was sitting by was me. We also joked around in there, but that's probably not important.
So, Whaddaya think. Does she like me, or no, or is it impossible to tell.
well, david, first of all i think it's a little too soon in your life to be so involved and flustered in such a situation...i'm guessing that you're not even in high school yet...at your age, you shouldn't be so concerned with dating yet, if you ask me...perhaps you could hang out with her or be her "special friend", but i wouldn't get into a girlfriend/boyfriend relationship just yet, especially when many girls and boys your age aren't even beginning to hit adolescence yet. are your friends that are the same age as you dating yet? would your parents approve? would hers? i don't mean to be a stick in the mud (believe me, i'm NOT conservative!--i'm a 21 year old goth comic artist lol), but i think often dating so early on in life can end up in ruined friendships and upsetment. if i were you, i would wait until i was at least a freshman in high school (i did, and maybe that still was a little too young.)
If you notice, I mainly asked "Does she like me?" I really just want to know. Besides, I couldn't really be her "special friend" unless I knew she likes me as more than just a friend. We're already friends.
And almost everybody in my grade has a "boyfriend/girlfriend" and while it's possible they don't really do anything, it's often referred to as "going out" at my school. On the other hand, they must because we're not technically allowed to "show affection" at my school, not even hugging or holding hands. Therefore they obviously do something outside of school.
Besides, if a movie doesn't work out, I could ask her to go with me to the social at my school coming up soon.
Point is, I need to know, because if I ask and she says no, we'll both be made fun of, or at least me, and that's not something I need at a new school.
I'll also have you know that I don't like her just for her looks. Besides, I doubt that any of the boys there would consider her to be "hot," but I really like her personality. Best part is, she's not the kind of girl who obsesses over makeup, jewelry, clothes, or shoes. Also note that I know her phone number and e-mail, and she knows mine.
So just tell me if she likes me or not. I need to know!!!
no one can tell you if she likes you or not. we only know what u tell us, and while we can guess, no one can actually know. she, or anyone she's told, are the only people that can know.
I'll try and help you but remember not to get too serious about middle school; if you're very unsure about whether or not this girl likes you, I'd hate for you to spoil your friendship with her. PLus, when you get to high school, EVERYTHING from middle school makes you laugh. It's a hormonal time.
She does seem to hang around you. Do any other girls hang out with you? Some guys seem to attract a lot of girls, but if they're reelin in a specific one, there may be a greater chance that she likes you. Does she hang out with a lot of other guys?
You might wanna take it slow at first....ya know, maybe go out on a group date to the movies and make sure you score a seat next to her. Kind of a trick date.
There's nothing else I can tell ya.....answer my questions and I might have more to say.

no, all the other girls at my school think I'm disgusting because I like rats, and weird because I'm obsessed with the Simpsons. personally, I'm ok with that, cause if they don't like rats, they don't like anything cute. However, I suppose you could say she hangs out with other guys, cause she hangs out with me and my friends, especially at lunch, but she doesn't laugh at ALL of my other friend's jokes. Then again, I can make anyone laugh if I try. One of my favorites to use at school is to fold my hands with my two index fingers pointing out and touching my head, then I say, "I will now use my telekinetic powers to make everyone else in this room...stupid!...duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh...haha...monkey." It doesn't make for much typing, but in person it cracks everyone up. Anywho, I'm basically the jester of the group, though everyone tells their favorite punch lines from South Park. I joke around a lot.

Well, no other girl hangs out with you. Shes constantly hanging out with you. She hangs around with other guys, but she seems to always choose YOU as the guy to hang with. Does she seem self-conscious around you? If she does, she probably likes you, and you should give it a try.
Remember, the best judge in this are the people that really know her.

Self conscious, like, uh.....hmm. Well, when grils act self conscious, they try to make themselves look good and avoid anything that would make them look less than perfect.
Some girls cover their stomachs, some girls wear a lot of makeup, and some (like my friend sara) refuse to have a waterbaloon fight in front of guys because she'll get messy. There are lots of things....
Yeah, I'm not too good at this, because I try not to be self conscious. (i have a rebel attitude)

All here have thought of it, most experienced it;
the day a rat dies.
Our lives are short, our bodies are small, and most of America doesn't give a hoot what happens to our species. Many actually hope somthing bad does happen to us.
All these strange illnesses and diseases that rats seem to obtain overnight are....well, certain cases can be stopped, like my recent inner ear infection. It's a simple thing; head tilt, medicine, done.
But then we here anout so many of these cases...like the one about the guinea pig noises (no offense, just an example). These tend to come up a lot.
Getting to my point, considering all the stress that humans have over us, I feel bad, truly, and just because you all know Lila is typing this for me doesn't mean its her opinion. Lila has been noticing my every sneeze, my every wheeze, my every twist, and any type of snot that comes out of my nose.
I'm tired of it.
I'd much rather have Lila bending her back over defrosting peas to just the right temperature than having her wipe my nose and study my walking habits. To sum it all up;
Rats don't live long. Humans usually can't prevent it. People should just squeeze the best out of us in our short time and remember us fondly when we're gone. It's life, and it happens (not meaning to sound harsh at all).

Hey! School has not yet managed to take over my life! But between horseback riding and volenteering at the humane soc. I have precious little time for myself! i just got a new rat...he's got only 3 legs, and no tail ...that, however, isn't what i'm worried about...unfortunately, tho, he keeps making guinea pig sounding noises now and then, no pattern that i can recognize of why..i don't know if it's wheezing or what, but it sure isn't normal squeaking or anything like that. what should i do? i don't have a vet (or money) immediately at hand...does this sound like anything familiar to any of you? please help!
No, never heard a rat make this noise.
rats are not silent, you know. they make all kinds of different noises. You can only wait and see how his health goes, for now. Doesn't sound like anything bad yet. My rat, Casper, has been sneezing for along time now and he's still o.k.
Poor guy, how old is he? I'm glad to hear you took in a handicap rat. give him lots of love. I had one that had a club foot once, she didn't mind at all. what about yours? where did you get him? do you know why he doesn't have a tail, and leg? I'll bet he doesn't even notice. I wouldn't worry about noises too much. Let us know if you notice anything else. especially not eating.

i've had rats for many years, and many made noises, but none like the little handicap guy (we've named him kurt)...took him to the vet and it turns out it's pneumonia...however, thank God, the antibiotics and steroids the vet gave us seem to be working so far...turns out the noises were him having little breathing attacks...the worst part is, all my other rats caught it ...they're on meds now, too. when we got kurt we figured, like any rat owner would i guess, that he was just making little panic noises cuz he wasn't used to us or was very vocal...oh well...i'll let u know how it turns out...for now, they seem to be getting along OK...thanks for your thoughts and concern:) it's very nice to hear from others who care about rats:) oh, and one of my other rats only has 1 eye, he's about 2, but he seems to be doing alright despite the resp. infection stuff
wow, thats a new one! I'm glad you got him to the vet for his sake and your other rats. that would be an easy mistake (not thinking he was sick). where did you get these handicap rats? all our prayers are with your rats on this site!!!!

i've gotten the handicapped ones at 2 different pet stores...right now, i have 4 rats..one is half himalayan/half hairless, one is a blue hooded dumbo rat, one is a champagne rat, and my little handicapped boy, called "kurt" for now, is a regular white lab rat...i also have a blind ferret, a 7 foot snake that "cries" and had respiratory illnesses and was abandoned, and various other inhabitants from time to time (including a leech!)...the noises my little one made included a little bit of sneezing and a jumpy chest, so i knew something had to be up (or supposed, anyway)
Half hymalain,half hairless? what does that look like? I have a 2 yr. old male, beige rat named Casper. and a grey hooded 1 yr. old named Robin Hood. I love the hairless rats!! I had one named ugly (u-glee) she had "chinese eyes and was smooth and pink. I bought her a friend I named Glenda. She had regular eyes, and her coloring was more on the purple side and she had these growths all over her that looked like potatoe "eyes". yuck. she really was ugly. but her and u-glee became best friends. when ugly died, glenda died right after of a broken heart, I think. because, I never really paid attention to her. she was older when I bought her as a friend to ugly. And being older she didn't mind me paying attention to her. So ugly was her only friend. Hairless, and dumbo and other types of rats are hard to find in this town of Tucson. Where are you from? I'm here in Arizona, but was originally from Chicago.

the half hairless/half himalayan has red eyes, short, coarse kind of sparse hair, and siamese-like markings (little blackish-grey markings) on her snout, in back of the ears, and right on the beginning of the tail. we have a lot of pet stores near here, and a lot of exotics being sold, so they weren't too hard to find. we live near NYC. i've never been to the southwest. i've been to a lot of other places in the U.S. and canada and some islands, tho. i'd love to visit the southwest someday, maybe arizona and texas. you guys have nice weather there, right? i HATE the cold weather!...it's nice for about 5 minutes when it snows a little during the holidays, but that gets old FAST lol...
well, being from Chicago, you know I know all about your weather, I hate the cold too. so, I got out of there. Yes, we have nice weather almost all year round. but in the summer for about 3 months, you really can't enjoy being outside. not even at night. and you can't open the windows even. I miss that.(like when you have 90 weather, with 90 humidity) . we hybernate in the summer, you hybernate in the winter. but at least we don't have to dig our cars of the ice or snow.
I have never been to the east coast and of course N. Y. sounds interesting to me. been in every other direction, but never east.
theres alot of things that I miss up north. like trees, rain, and when its really hot in the summer, it rains and there is a beautiful cool breeze. all the greenery. here it is desert and brown. its beautiful, but,in a different way.

that's the prob...cuz of global warming, our summers are like that too now! the humidity is terrrible! it used to be cool around here, but the last 5 years has been "beastly" as my mom would call it heh...oh well...i'd still rather it than winter tho...ive stayed in FL during heat waves, which was bad, but again, i still liked it better than cold lol..i dunno..maybe cuz at least it's pretty outside (plants etc) and u can go out at night without freezing to death heh i want to move to FL, but my fiance doesn't want to much, cuz our families are here
I live in Nebraska. I've been to Arizona twice, and man is their weather hot. The northernmost state I've been to is Minnesota, but only around the middle. Still, that was August. And though it was August and Nebraska was HOT, I had to wear sweats the whole time I was there. I can only imagine their winters, brr. And I thought NE was bad. Actually it's pretty mild. In the summer it's peaked to about 105*F. But only for a while. Winters can be bad, but only around 0. It seriously doesn't feel too bad except for the windchill. Now is my favorite time of year for three (3) reasons:
1. Leaves are AWESOME colors
2. My B-day is in October (11, I totally forgot to tell you guys)
3. VERY mild weather. I'm still comfortably wearing shorts to school.
Anywho, I'm a teenager now, the 11th was my 13th Birthday! YAY! I had an awesome party, and everyone there loved Snowball! Or, almost everyone. One of them had a rat named Lucky that died a couple years ago (I helped him come up with the name ). He petted her a couple times, but wasn't very enthusiastic. It's weird, me and him are best friends and his birthday's two days before mine. He was the only one there besides me that had reached the teen age. We stayed up all night playing Soul Calibur 2.
And nearly everyone there had, or had had, a rat or rats. I invited four people, 1 has a rat named Moe (short for Maurice) that is a year old. Another guest I told you about, he had Lucky. The other one had had 3 rats before. First he had a really old rat named Tobias that was albino. He got him from his old girlfriend when she moved to Australia. After Tobias died, he got two more rats at the same time, Megan and Jenny. I only saw them once, two years ago, so I don't remember them, but Megan died a while ago and Jenny died last month. His mom got really emotional when she saw Snowball, because she said she looked just like Jenny, and she thinks Snowball is Jenny's reincarnation, since Jenny died around the same time Snowball was born. I almost couldn't pry Snowball from her.
I'm going on and on, so I'll end this by saying Snowball sends her hellos to everyone.
Ain't no mistakin gender when we get older! I like the name Snowball! I was almost named Twinkie. Mommy said said I was too hyper to be called Twinkie. I guess she is right Twinkies just sit and get eaten up. I missed Cookies. We're tight. Parakeet? As a rat I am not sure what it is. But Maddie as a human says that possibly if put food out it will go to the food and then you can put a net over it. Hmmmmmm? Oh yeah the reson why the title is hee hee is because I think Cookies will have to take back her crush. She could like Nibbles,if she goes for ugly chubby old rats! LOL! Kidding,Nibbles is super sweet and Poppy really likes him(if ya know what I mean). I g2g do some bad rattie stuff.

David changed my name to Snowball now that he knows I'm a girl. When he thought I was a guy, he considered Snowball because I look like one, you know, same color, but he decided it sounded a little too girly. Now it works, so my new name is Snowball!

I think I made a gender classification error. It's not that my neighbors were right, they just couldn't tell cause they don't know the difference. The strange thing is, today I looked closer and behind the weiner-looking thing was a hole that I think might be a vagina. But then what's the weiner-looking thing? Do females have them too? Is the only difference between the genders the vagina? Female rat owners please help me, and I think Bart may need a name change. Help with that would also be appreciated. Thanks!
