Ok, I can't take it anymore. After 8 dismal years of this poor excuse for a hero, it's time we get somebody real in the role of GL. And this Ion thing isn't an improvement. Come on, even you Kyle fans can't be enjoying an all powerful hero with NO weaknesses. Where is the drama? I mean, how can any of you guys like this looser? Sure he does the job, but only barely, but he is back in bed jumping Jades bones every chance he can get. Yeah, great role model there for todays youth.
Get Hal, John, Alan, or heck, even Guy back in the role of Earths Green Lantern. Give us a book people can be proud to read again. (and be a top seller again, if Green Arrow can, GL could easy!)
I'm sure you Kyle fans will flame me royally, but go ahead if it makes you feel important. I'm not the first person to post this kind of thing, and won't be the last....
Alan Scott: Earths FIRST Green Lantern
Hal Jordan: Earths GREATEST Green Lantern
Kyle Rayner: Earths MEDIOCRE Green Lantern
Just to let you know, Kyle Rayner is on the way out. As of Green Lantern #150 (on sale in May 2002) the ring will be passed on to a new Green Lantern. Who will it be? Well, it's all hush hush right now of course, but I think it just may be John Stewart. You may recall his recent appearance in which he ridded himself of his wheelchair. Also there's the fact that he is GL in the Justice League animated TV show and in the JL Adventures comic. DC is most likely going to do this (put Stewart back in the costume) to give GL a more consistent presence the across it's titles, meaning a ONE and ONLY Green Lantern. I would not complain however if they somehow managed to bring back Hal Jordan, since he was the quintessential Green Lantern, but I don't see that being physically possible. Hal or Stewart, I don't care, I'm just glad Kyle will no longer be a Green Lantern.

In stores May 8. Extra-sized issue! The end of Ion! The return of Green Lantern! But just who is going to wear the Green Lantern ring? As Kyle visits the moments in the past when various heroes have been given the Green Lantern ring, he must decide exactly how he can best serve the cause of good. With appearances from Hal Jordan (now the Spectre), Alan Scott, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and others, this issue is the beginning of a whole new Green Lantern! For more information, see the feature article.
I can't agree with you more. I just didn't realize it had been eight years now. (How time flies when you're NOT having fun!) I, for one, cannot wait for Kyle Rayner's days as Earth's only Green Lantern to come to an end. Man, I miss Hal Jordan (not to mention the Green Lantern Corps). Let's have the wielder of the power ring be someone worthy of the power and responsibility. At the very least, let's have an individual who is more interesting as a person.
Bro I haven't liked Rayner since he was introduced! He isn't HOPELESSLY lame but he will never be Green Lantern.Perhaps A Green Lantern, but never THE Green Lantern.I would love to have Hal back, when everyone was reading Wolverine and Spiderman I was reading Batman,Superman,Flash, and Green Lantern. And It was a tie between Green Lantern and Batman.Marz handled the whole thing badly, and I was stoked because of his run on the Silver Surfer,DC tells Marz "We want the character of 'Hal Jordan' gone"So instead of giving Hal a valiant death and doing an Abin Sur and letting Hal send the ring to find a successor he kills every G.L. all the Guardians but one pain in the ass and destroys Oa.And worst of all he has the greatest Green Lantern(Hal)do it all himself. But there's hope #1 Judd Winnick has already he's replacing Kyle and John Stewart or Jade are the two most likely candidates.God,if not Hal then i'm beggin' please make it Jade mr.Winnick, then resign.#2Geoff Johns is doing alot of stuff and one of his plots involves Alan,he's getting his ring back and(YES!)HIS name!Anyway,We'll see Hal and Barry again real soon all the same, you know Marvel's 'Ultimate' line?Well DC is doin' the same thing only they are using the Silver Age characters.Anyway bud, write back it's good to know the Corps still lives.May the light guide you.
I couldn't agree with you more Jay. But as you've seen by now with GL #150 Kyle Rayner, although bearing a new costume, is still Green Lantern... UGGHH!! I thought for sure it would be John Stewart! However, I must say this issue was handled very well. The fact that Kyle, as Ion, struggled with his fate (and fates of others) and decided not to change the past - because the past should really be left alone.
Kyle is now without his Ion powers, has a 'modified' ring (see issue 150 for details) and the Corps are re-born! The two best things to come out of this issue? One, the fact that Kyle has matured significantly as a super-hero and as a person, and second is the new costume... very reminiscent of the old Jordan/Stewart style but with a modern 'twist'.. well done DC! Although die-hard GL & Jordan/Stewart faithfuls did not get their wish, maybe it's time for us to accept the fact that there will probably never be a Jordan or Stewart 'revival'. It will be difficult but with an open mind I'm almost (remember, I said 'almost'!) ready to accept this "New" GL to be a full-fledged staple super-hero right up there with Bats and Supes. Remember though, if you are a John Stewart fan he will more than likely pop up in this book more frequently due to his recent appearance and important changes to the character. Peace Bro!
P.S. to that annoying 'Anonymous' If you hate comics so much get off this site. Stuff the stereotypes and don't assume that all comic fans are dimwitted losers chatting on the net. Maybe you should go see the 'Spider-Man' movie and realize that the characters and comics they appear in (in which we celebrate this medium) bear more integrity than you think. And by the way I happen to be in a long-term relationship with a beautiful person, don't need a condom, and get laid all the time. Stick that in your ignorant pipe and smoke it!!
I agree that the axing of Hal should have been handled differently but tell me when you read the emerald Twilight arc that you weren't thinking "holy **** this is intense". I like the whole concept of turning Hal's character around. It shows that one he is more human than the Supermans and Wonder Womans out there. That he is fallible and can succumb under enormous strain. The main reason I liked it was because there was and still is a serious lack of good NEW villians in the DC universe and a villian the likes of Hal Jordan kicked ass. It was cool because you knew what the power he had could do and you knew what Hal himself was capable of. The killing off of Parallax was the real tragedy. They should have left him out there, not as a good guy but not always a bad guy but kind of a loose cannon. Parallax was a great character and a great twist on a beloved character that arguably was treated disrespectfully. Happy reading
First, I do like Hal more than Kyle, basically because of the nostalgia, BUT. GL was never a top selling book especially around the time where they decided to shake it up with Hal in Emerald Twilight. They needed something new. The reason people were bored with it was because Hal was everything you are saying Kyle is, which is basically invincible. They could only come up with so many yellow creatures. Kyle's inexperience with the ring and playing the reluctant hero were supposed to make him seem more vulnerable. Face it, how vulnerable can someone be with that ring anyway. As for Kyle's whinning, how many freaking times did I have to sit through a Hal Jordan story arc where he did nothing but complain about being a hero. How many times did he throw the ring down only to pick it up again and like Kyle with Jade, how many times was Hal jumping in the sack with Carol (besides if I had Jade at home I'd have a hard time going to work too). I'm not trying to change your mind or make you "see the light" with Kyle. Hal will always be my favorite but if you want a character that is "real" it will be one who does complain every now and then, who occasionally makes the wrong decision, who sometimes doesn't feel like being a hero everyday, has girl troubles and who (at least once) deals with infinite power. Hal AND Kyle both share these qualities. Happy reading!
