I finally has enough and I had to ask Dooley some questions. I am pretty sure that I will not like the answers that I get but I hope that he can explain some things to me. The time travel thing sure was a mistake for them they have backed themselves into a corner with no way out. Having Parallax be at Coast city and puase time shows how powerful he is. He can do whatever he wants to. There is no reason that Coast city should not be saved not should Hal not be around. I am pretty sure I will get some attempt and then we are proud of Kyle and Hals time has passed. Why can't DC admit that they made a mistake Marvel can. They said the whole clone saga was bad and tried to make up for it. They brouught back the original Peter why can't DC admit the mistake and bring back Hal

They all screw up.

>>Why can't DC admit that they made a mistake Marvel can. They said the whole clone saga was bad and tried to make up for it. They brouught back the original Peter why can't DC admit the mistake and bring back Hal?<<

Problem is, Marvel keeps making mistakes over and over again too. They "fix" the clone thing, then they do a "Death of Superman" type storyline (where Spiderman vanishes and suddenly 4 different heroes with similar powers show up - yeah, we all know it's Spidey doing it, but it ain't original).

Now they're kicking the dead horse and having Byrne screw-up Spiderman's history the way he re-wrote Superman's history to reflect his own personal feelings about the character. Superman improved once they did some "modifications" to Bryne's work. I read the first "new origin" issue of Spiderman, and am convinced that I'll never pick up a Spiderman book again either.

Hal's (and the corps) destruction was purely vindictive. Ron must've been a kid who had all his GL comics taken from him by the bigger kids, and now he's exacting his revenge. There's no good reason for what he did, and the only explanation is that he wants the GL universe to reflect HIS vision, not the vision of what has been and what has been deemed to come.

At least Marvel fixes their mistakes

October 16 1998, 8:56 PM

Marvel might keep making dumb mistakes, but at least they are not to big and proud to admit that they make mistakes. They try to undue it. Not just a small bit like DC. They know that they made a mistake by what they did to Hal. They realize how popular he is so they will bring him back now and again. That is not good enough, hom many dumb stories do we have to put up with Kyle complaining I am not good, whine whine. I will say Kyle is more creative with his ring. All this means is that they have a good artist, not a goo writer. I can live with mistakes as long as you fix them.

Can Waid fix it?

October 17 1998, 10:26 AM

Well, considering how many screw ups Ron Marz has made so far, I doubt if he can fix it all.

Rumour has it that Mark Waid is working on the next "Crisis" for the DC universe. From what I've read, it's said something like "if you think we're bringing back the multiverse, and putting things back to where they were before - you're thinking small".

Waid is the best writer DC (or Marvel) has right now. If ANYONE can fix this crap (hell, he fixed what happened to Jay during Zero Hour), Mark can.

Waid

October 18 1998, 8:37 PM

I agree completely that Mark Waid could fix things for Hal and the Corps. If he had gotten his way, Hal would have been the Kingdom Come GL, not Alan Scott. The new crisis probably will relate to Gog anf Kingdom Come, but we'll have to see how the December Kingdom Event ends first.

Anybody with a pencil could fix it!

October 19 1998, 2:20 PM

I'm thinking they DON'T want to fix it. The fix was dangling right it front of us (Parallax with Hal and Kyle in Coast City BEFORE it was destroyed) and shows Marz maybe isn't being aloud to fix it, yet. I think Dooley is trying to make a name for himself as the new Green Lantern creater. He admits he is a Hal fan, but time and time again, he keeps Hal down. It just doesn't make any sense for them NOT to bring Hal back. Perhaps he is more popular dead than alive, sorta like Elvis. Remember, a few months ago? Would you have bought Power of Shazam if Hal wasn't in it? Or Chase? I know I wouldn't have before his death. Marketing? perhaps. If anything, they certainatly could bring out a tales of book or Hal Jordan: The lost years or something like that. Sooner or later, they will have to submit! If Batman and Superman can have 8 titles each a month, I'm sure they could squeeze out a second GL title.

You're right

October 19 1998, 2:52 PM

You hit the nail on the head: They don't want to fix it. And I mean DC, not just Dooley. Again, it's also why Hal wasn't allowed to be in Kingdom Come (even though it was only supposed to be an elseworlds story at the time). They, for whatever reason, want to keep Hal out of thr DC Universe. Or else, they would have a "Legends" type book or a Parallax book (since either one wouldn't affect what has been done to Corps/Kyle). Marz doesn't even respect Hal, so I don't even know if he would fix things if they wanted him to, or allowed him to. T think he'd just walk.

Heroes Death didn't work

October 19 1998, 5:46 PM

What they keep forgetting at DC is that killing off a hero AS a hero doesn't always work.

Barry died saving the universe. We could accept that, as it was perfectly in character.

Hal died saving the solar system, and while it was in character for Hal, the events that led up to it were NOT. Had Hal been GL at the time and not gone throught the "insanity" phase of Parallax, we could have accepted it.

They way they did it, it just looks like they planned to do him in from the start, and waited for the proper moment to nail the coffin shut.

All that has been done by bringing Hal back, only to have him return to the past is open up old wounds, and remind us why we stopped reading the book after Emerald Twilight ended.

They screwed things up again with this "ring copy" thing. Okay...let's go with the poor plot that Hal's ring can make a copy of itself. When Jade puts it on, she appears in a GL costume. NOT the *right* one however, as her costume has the green shoulder covers (which didn't appear until all the GLs were given their new rings back when the GL/GA series was revived), and not the "Abin Sur" costume which Hal himself was wearing when he made this "copy".

Once again, Ron and Dooley get it wrong Wrong WRONG!

These guys aren't checking anything except the balance of their bank accounts.

Marz/Dooley

October 20 1998, 2:01 AM

I think Marz and Dooley think that since they created this "New Era" in GL history that nothing that came before matters, including apparently common sense. If any GL could have created duplicates of his ring, it would have been Sinestro. I think they killed Hal off simply because they didn't know what else to do with him and because as long as Hal was alive, the Hal-Kyle debate could never end. Now, having Hal die as he did, as opposed to letting him really die at the end of Zero Hour, made sense. Hal, like Darth Vader, was a fallen hero. It was appropriate that he would re-embrace his past and be a hero again before death. All that said, there's no way in hell that Hal should be dead. Especially since he was drawing the sun-eater into himself, as opposed to outshining its darkness. There was never any real proof given that he was dead. If DC wanted him back, it would be so simple to bring Parallax back.

I'm certain Hal will be back

October 20 1998, 5:37 PM

Considering they didn't show us a body (like they did when Barry died)and give us confirmation that he's really really *really* dead (like when the spirit of Johnny Quick verified that he spoke with Barry from within the Speed Force), then there's always a chance he'll come back.

When they can find a use for him, they'll do it.

Who knows, they may have him come back and train these new GL's that Kyle is rounding up. This way he can teach from both sides of the spectrum - how good the power can be, and how bad. He wouldn't have to answer to the Guardians, but he could be advised by one (if Ganthet is now a part of him as I suspect).

This whole thing might be an elaborate plan to bring him back for good - but keep him out of Kyle's spotlight.

Another golden opportunity missed...

October 20 1998, 8:30 PM

I'm sure this opp will come and go, by the powers that be. I'm all for banishing Hal to space or some new OA or whatever, he should be punished for what he did, but atleast we would have him back. This would also solve the "Hal had his time now it is Kyles turn to shine" theory, as Kyle can still be Earths GL (along with Jade) and Hal (and even John, since he has some hidden power yet to be explored) and the pair of them could train and manage the new Corps. But this is all fantasy, as the "two" won't do this either. Poor Hal, doomed to limbo until a new writer/editor take over.

waiting

October 20 1998, 9:43 PM

You are probably right about having to wait. The only question is how long. Right now is the perfect time. Hal is as popular as ever. Everyone knows that Parallax is powerful enough to pause time so him appearing would not be so far fetched. The longer they wait the worse it will be. They will say too much time has passed or some other lame answer. One last thing I am so sick and tired of hearing Dooley say he is a big Hal Jordan fan. If he was he would do something to bring him back. He would not say and I quote "I was a big Hal Jordan fan but his time has passed, it is now Kyles turn to shine." I can not wait until Dooley is out of a job and is forced to retire, they he can hear you were good, but your timre has passed. They he can see what a slap in the face that is.

Hal and John? Hmm.....

October 21 1998, 8:08 AM

Yeah, I could see that - the two of them working together. It could give John a new purpose too, ulitmately helping him finally cope with the loss of Katma ("She'd want the corps to go on" type of thing).

Perhaps Carole would finally decide her place is with Hal, and opt to go with him there (even taking the plunge into marriage). This would leave a whole new area to explore (no comments people! ;-) ) as they would have domestic life, and the troubles of offspring possibly being born with the power (which could lead to their child ulitimately being the greatest GL of them all - having been trained by the best since birth).

THIS is what we want. THIS is what is acceptable.

Most of all, this would WORK from all points - keeping Kyle/Jade on earth, and Hal out of the "limelight" so that Kyle can (ahem) shine.

Ganthet/Hal

October 21 1998, 1:43 PM

Who really knows what Ganthet did while he was inside of Hal? Maybe he just calmed his anger so Hal could see things properly again. Ganthet has only popped up in 2 issues since "Parallax:Emerald Night" anyway, so we don't even know what he's doing now. And if Ganthet was so displeased with Kyle before, what has changed to make him happy with him now?

Ganthet's personality change

October 22 1998, 8:19 AM

Yeah. You're right. Ganthet IS acting different towards Kyle. He does seem to be more accepting of him.

It's almost like he comes from Mars.

No.

Almost right.

He comes from MarZ.

THAT explains it.

I was right

October 16 1998, 8:51 PM

I turn on my computer to check my mail and behold I get a response from Dooley. I will have to say he is prompt. That is all that I will say good for him. He said that they established rings could make other power rings way back in another contuity. Ignored the question as to why had to take the other Guardains rings or why Kilowog did not make more rings too.He went on to say like always Hal had his time to shine, now it is Kyles. Hal will make guest appearances like Alan Scott use to. Let me guess when, I would say when sells start to plummit. Then I asked why can't Hal have a series on his own. Make it a parallax series. He ignored that one totally. He always does. I am sick of the same answers always. You pose good questions like Parallax stoping time why did he not save Coast city. He said Parallax has to save the sun and that is why. No, we were told that it was in Hal nature to crack like he did. There is no way that they can say that it is not in Parallax's nature to save Coast city.

Different continuity?!?

October 19 1998, 5:50 PM

Dooley said the ring copy thing was in a different continuity?

What pipe is he smokin' from? What was it - some elseworlds story?

All this from a guy who still doesn't realize that Kyle isn't really wearing Hal's ring (i.e. Abin Sur's ring), just one Hal acquired.

Sounds to me you got his Cut and paste answer!

October 19 1998, 9:44 PM

Yeah read my response I got from him about a month ago in my letters section, sounds very much the same BS. Hal had his time , kyles time to shine, Parallax to make infrequent guest appeareances ala Alan Scott, yada yada yada. Those goons just will not give us a straight answer, ie we goofed up, sorry. They could become the knights in shinning armor if they would bring Hal back. But what they could be doing is starving us of Hal, giving small doses of him to us so we eat up whatever they give us. Like teasing a thirsty guy from the desert with an eyedropper of water.
