Yeah, it's probably a fluke of some kind that won't last, but I found this issue refreshing. Kyle as Green Lantern Prime and founding the new Corps. Ganthet with a nasty eye scar....and Effigy with a new band of Darkstars. I luv outer space, Corps stuff which is where Kyle should be more at since he doesn't do a very good job with his Earth life anyway.
But I actually enjoyed it too. (All except the fact it is just a dream of somekind and Kyle still had his lame suit and still acted like a rookie....Ra Ro Raggy, ugh)
Other than that, I liked it, we had the standard aliens that looked cool as GLs, (Thank god it wasn't those lame New Corps GL's) and very cool setup. Is this a glimpse of the future? Why did all the lanterns STILL wear original GL suits and NOT look like Kyles? If you had a different suit, wouldn't you base the corps you recreated in your suit design? Thanks god he didn't. Effigy and his evil Corps is a neat idea, and even having Ganthet as dispatcher for Green Lantern Prime was neat. All in all, a very refreashing issue that gave me a little of what I miss about the book. Why Marz feels he has to tease us with this stuff instead of just making it happend is beyond me.
My favorite line was: "In Brightest day Green Lantern Prime" Music to my ears and may begin using that as a greeting (minus GL Prime of course)
All in all not a bad issue, just make it real and allow it help Kyle grow as a character, then we may have a good GL book again to read! Is this the kind of stories we can expect now that Dooley is out of the picture? I hope so...
I absolutely agree with you! Space is where GL belongs. I just wrote a letter to the GL column regarding #121 before coming here. Our thinking is very similar. I hope someone realizes that GL is a
SCI-FI based hero. Not just another punk with powers. An organization like the corps can't be taken advantage of by any other book than GL! Anyway, I'm preachin' to the choir here, but I basically wrote that and a few other things in my letter. I hope I'm not the only one writing in to express my feelings on this. Oh, and as for Dooley's(I think) old comment on how "Alan Scott did just fine without a GL corps, so kyle can too", take a poll, pal............how many would honestly say Alan Scott's origin without any GL Corps background is a more interesting concept than a GL WITH the Corps concept......lame dodge tactic, Kev.
Hmmmm, thanks for the new poll idea! I'll set that up at end of month!
Exactly, Alan Scott, although no disrespect, is not REALLY that interesting. Sure he has been around for over 60 years, but always as a background character. He held his series for 11 years (no small feat) but alas his stories of him stoping the evil toy soldeirs or having his wonder dog stop the bank robber, or Dolby Dickels problem with his talking taxi just didn't cut it anymore. Hal is what made Green Lantern famous, no doubts there, and Kyle is riding his success. Marz may be finally coming around to that fact, and we may finally see the Corps return in 2000 for good!
