Hello. I am very young (18 yrs old) and I just recently got into comic books, mainly Green Lantern. One day, I was walking down the street in my neighborhood when I noticed a comic book store (The Comic Cult) that I had never seen before. I went inside to see what they had, and came out with three Green Lantern comics (all recent issues).

Anyways, Im starting to become a fan of the Green Lantern (post-Hal series) but while looking on the internet, I find lots of other Green Lantern series, side-stories, etc. I try to find a website that coudl explain all of the different Green Lantern series and comics out there, but failed to find one. Would anyone please help a new-Green Lantern fan and list and explain the different Green Lantern publications available? Also, I am starting my collection of Green lantern comics (featuring Kyle Rayner). I do not want to collect the 3 decades of Hal Jordan because I have neither the time, money nor shelfspace to do so. I want to collect ALL of the Kyle Rayner comics, but I dont know from which issue number to begin. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Well welcome!

Welcome tothe wonderful world of comics! (and Green Lantern!)

A quick history of the three different series is as follows: 1940-1952 Golden Age Green Lantern Alan Scott. He used a magical power ring that did not work against wood. He had to charge his ring every 24 hours and said an oath. He was (and still is) a member of the JSA. He has since changed his name to Sentinel.

1959-1994 Silver Age Green Lantern Hal Jordan. Test pilot amogst other professions. Used a scientific ring that did not work against yellow. He also had to charge his ring every 24 hours and said an oath. He was a member of the Green Lantern Corps and rose to be the greatest member. Until the day his city was destroyed, Hal desired to gain more power to bring his city back and all of the people, so went to Oa where the Guardians and the Central Power Battery resided and fought a few other GL's then absorbed the energy into himself, calling himself Parallax now. He soon sacrificed himself saving the Earth and reigniting the sun. He has recently returned as the new Spectre.

1994-present Modern Day Green Lantern Kyle Rayner. Graphic designer. Uses a modified version of the old GL Corps ring which has no weaknesses, used to need charging, but has grown in power as of late. Kyle started out in issue #50 of current series. There are several Trade Paper backs chronicaling his series.

Good luck finding the back issues. If I was you, I would start the series at issue #129, where a new writer takes over and slightly turns Kyle into a semi new direction. Any more questions, feel free to ask!

Thanks, and a bit more...

Hi...thanks for the history lesson. Well, I dont believe that itll be difficult to find back issues of Green Lantern as EBAy always has auctions for GL comics. I doubt that I will "collect" these comics as I love the artwork and story too much without revisiting and rereading each and every issue. Also, thank you for the recommendation (starting at issue #129). Ill do just that and work my way backwards. (Too bad I already won an auction on EBAY for 35 issues of GL, but oh well...more to read). I seriously do not have room for more impulse shopping.

Second question, what about the other GL side series? Like the one set in ancient China (?)? And The War Between Worlds (I believe I bought this issue). Would someone please tell me what other side series there are featuring the Green Lantern?

I'm assuming by "Green Lantern" you want only Kyle issues..

Some of the minis or one shots he's been in are:

Green Lantern 1,000,000
Green Lantern & Sentinel :Heart of Darkness
Green Lantern Plus(featuring the Ray)
Green Lantern 3D
Green Lantern 80 page Giant #3
Green Lantern Circle of Fire along with:
Green Lantern with Atom/Firestorm/Powergirl/Adam
Strange
Green Lantern/Silver Surfer
Green Lantern Fear Itself
Green Lantern The New Corps
Flash/Green Lantern: Faster Friends

There are laso several TPB's that reprint some of his old issues like:

Green Lantern: A New Dawn
Green lantern: Emerald Allies
Green Lantern: Baptism of Fire
Green Lantern Emerald Knights

I'd avoid Green Lantern Dragonlord as it has nothing to do with Kyle and it's garbage to boot.

hey

August 16 2001, 7:53 PM

i'm into kyle too, i'm 13 by the way. kyle appears in the gl series at #48, but doesn't really do anything until #50, after that, it's all him. also, pretty much any gl book or special that came out after 1996 (i'm pretty sure) is pretty much all kyle, but there is a good amount of hal that came out after that date.
hope i've helped, and i think u have good taste, i like kyle better than hal to.
