I will be graduating from a BSN program in November of this year and I am interested in working in an OB setting. Does anyone know of any job opportunities for a nurse that uses a wheelchair? I'm interested in direct patient care and not talking on the phone all day.
Thanks!

After you graduate take what job you can get....part-time....Then volunteer for an OB department....possibly a NICU helping out with the babies...
If the department can see what a great asset you are (and you will be)...they may offer you a job......Be patient....Make sure it is a large medical center if possible. I am always looking at possibilities for other nurses with disabilities to work in
OB- I can easily visualize a nurse in a wheel chair as a lactation consultant-NICU-. .....Congratulation on graduation! What school are you graduating from?

I graduated from Wright State University in Dayton, OH. I've had no job offers yet but I am throwing my resume out there. I completed a high risk OB elective and my senior practicum in a level 3 NICU so hopefully those experiences will help me out.

It's been almost six months since I graduated with my BSN and so far I have not found a job. I have applied and interviewed at numerous places and I am amazed at the ignorance of people. I have been lied to and told that there is a hiring freeze when there wasn't...I've been told that I am not capable of being a nurse since I have a wheelchair...the list goes on. Any ideas for me in finding a job? I have interviewed at a lot of hospitals and I recently did an interview at a clinic that I am waiting to hear back from. A clinic position would be ideal for me but they don't usually hire new grads. I just need a place that will let me work for six months and prove that I can be a good nurse! I made it through nursing school and I have the degree and my license...now I just need someone to give me a chance.
