Mentors

Hi!

I'm new to mentoring on this list myself. :-)

I have a diagnosis of a neuromuscular disorder (that's my primary disability), and, due to that, I had a serious struggle with a long-lasting major depressive episode four years ago.

Are you working now? How long ago were you diagnosed with YOPD, may I ask?

At the time of my diagnosis in 1999, I had no support system in place. I believe that had everything to do with the development of my later depressive episode.

Have you checked out the list of mentors on the home page? I don't know if a mentor is listed for Parkinson's Disease, but there may be. If not, perhaps Donna would want to communicate with you about adding you to her list of available mentors.

Sincerely, and welcome!

Please take a look at the new mouse adpater developed by IBM for people with tremors. It enables people who suffer from hand tremors to eliminate excessive cursor movement, thereby allowing more normal use of a personal computer.

Hi there, I have had essential and Parkinsonian tremor for the last 5-7 years. I have since finished a 17 yr trek to my BSN, but was a diploma RN first. I would be glad to help out in any way I can for those with neurological issues especially.

Sincerely,

Nicole Freeman

Essential tremors

Nicole,
What are you doing/taking for the essential tremors?
Are you using any natural products (vitamins etc) to bolster your neuro system?
Other than a "mega" vitamin B cap, fish oil and a multivitamin, since the B complex is water soluble, I'm not doing anything.
I'd appreciate any suggestions.
You can save the disclaimer....I'm capable of weighing advice that is set before me. Thanks.

Some of the stuff I do is yoga, with its specialized breathing techniques, it has helped my balance and strength and flexibility. As far as meds, I take Klonopin usually .25 mg tid or if working .5 mg bid-tid,I just take a generic multivitamin, also Sinemet for the Parkinsonian tremor, and try to keep a mellow attitude. Since I am very sensitive in ways I don't expect to herbal therapies, I have been reluctant to try them. Tremors are so individual,I think that therapy, medical or herbal, has to be tailored to the person. My neurologist always told me that the yoga teacher had done more for me than she had.....

Sincerely,

Nicole

Thank you for your response.

I have written to Donna among others, and all seem to be giving with their time
and experience.

Where can I obtain a copy of DE disability laws? Information such how much is your employer mandated to support and accomadate your employment.?

I am sorry I haven't checked the message board in a while and I apologize, the web has been an excellent source of information, specifically, re the Americans with Disabilities Act, I would google it. Basically, the employer, such as a larger hospital, for example, is not required to give you your old job, but can find you a comparable position, or, failing that, give you reasonable accomodations, such as, for hard of hearing people, an amplified stethoscope, but also, with the employer, divulge what is absolutely necessaary, but don't talk too much. Hope this helps
