Hello, I'm new here. I've been a nurse for 25 years, getting older, now having some problems with OA/RA, DJD, DDD,Fibromyalgia,Fatigue. Recently found out I dont have a disc in my back, others are "rounding" off, with disc narrowing and spurs throughout. My knees are eventually going to have to be replaced.I have arthritis from head to toe, per whole body bone scan. The OA and RA are advancing rapidly, the Rheumatologist has me on Methotrexate weekly. I'm 44.
Symptoms began in early 30's, with increase after birth of child at age 34. I take RXs(bunches) as prescribed. My problem: 3 DR's (including my current employer)and the Physical therapist have told me i should really give it up, it's time. I keep pushing harder, but find it getting harder to keep up. I'm exhausted. We're not financially able for me to quit work, but I don't know what else to do. I cant take a paycut. Anybody out there have any suggestions of what to do now, where to begin, how to go about it? Sorry, I know this is a long one. I'm scared, frustrated, and pooped(sorry, seemed like the right word).

You've already made a big step! Reaching out to others is so important.
Sit down and write a list of your strengths and your limitations....then paint your paradise...what would you like to do? And, most important...what can you do comfortably?
Work at home? Telephone triage? consulting? Medical writing? poison control hotline?
Then, learn all you can about the ADA and reasonable accommodations. If you want to stay with your current employer, consider asking for accommodations under the ADA.

Don't give up!

Your body may not be working for you....But your mind is full of ideas and experiences that you can share with others. Have you considered teaching nursing? Where are you from?
