Stethoscope for hearing impaired

I am preparing to start my nursing classes in January. My daughter is a nurse, and I have tried to listen to sounds with her regular stethoscope, and the sounds are very muted. I have nerve deafness in my left ear and fairly good hearing in the right. I am putting a special stethoscope on my Christmas list to help me in school, but I don't know which one is best for my situation. I was looking at the Allheart website, and they have the Littmann 3000 Electronic with Ambient Noise Reduction. Since they are very expensive, I want to be sure to get the right one. Can anyone give me some advice? Is there one model that is better for hearing impairment only on one side?

Please visit the web site of the Association of Medical Professionals with Hearing Loss at www.amphl.org.
They have excellent information about different stethoscopes.

There are a number of different types of stethoscopes. Most are pretty expensive so you want to make an informed decision... in consultation with your audiologist and others with a similar hearing loss.

Also, consider contacting some of the nurse/mentors with hearing loss on the mentor page of the ExceptionalNurse.com web site.

Good Luck!

your employer should help with reasonable accomodations, according to
ADA..share the cost with them.
