How do I get into a program like this? Would someone please contact me in reference to becoming a nursing student? I have completed an accredited Medical Assistant Program. I am currently registered in the state of Arizona, which confirms my title as a RMA. I completed the MA course through Cochise College in August, 2007. So far, I have not been offered any medical assistant positions in any general or specialized field of practice. How does a qualified person with a disability prove his/her capabilities and strengths?

I have spoken to Donna Maheady,Ed.D., ARNP on the phone during the MA course with problems. I have always wanted to become a Registered Nurse. Is it possible for someone from the Exceptional Nurse Program to help assist me toward the right direction? Thank you again for allowing me to share with you "my gambling hand and poker face"

Sincerely,

Michelle Sontheimer, RMA

There is no one right answer. This site has wonderful resources. You may also want to check with vocational rehabilitation in your state. I am in Wyoming and have received information on continuing education through the state board of nursing. Also check with your local community college or even university. Many classes can now be done online. hope that helps a little. Be prepared in advance and able to answer questions on your ability. I have found that to be helpful also. Some people will try to focus on your disability, but don't let them. Stay positive and be prepared to answer questions like why? and how? etc. Remind yourself of your strengths daily.
