Hello guys,

This is my first post. I've primarily owned Pontiacs but I've just picked up a 429 Thunderjet motor totally complete along with its C6 trans. I'm unfamiliar with Ford motor decoding and was hoping you guys could shed some light on what I have.

The numbers I was able to pull off the engine are: C8AE-9C485-B. It also has an Autolite 4bbl carb with a tag that reads C8SF G and below it reads C8D29. Can I tap into the experts out here for some decoding help? From what I was able to gather so far is that it's a 68 Ford motor. I have pictures of it at http://public.fotki.com/ponchopio/ They're in the 63 Ford Wagon For Sale album. Thanks in advance for your help!

Well, John, it seems you have exactly what you think you have...

...a 1968 429 ThunderJet. ThunderJet is just a fancy name for the base model 429. It had 360HP @ 4600 and 485 lb/ft of torque @ 2800. They were bascially the same from their introduction in 1968 to 1971. A 460 is just a stroked version of the 429 using all the same components except for the crank and pistons. It was rated at 5HP and 15 lb/ft more than the 429 (same rpms).

If you need any more specific info, just ask!

Cheers,
Dan
