Down and down, not up and down....

February 7 2003, 1:26 PM

Network 54 seems to be down more than up lately.

...and of course when they do the regular down time it's morning here (in the UK) anyway so we cant get access then either.

Still, at least we have the 'new' forum as a backup, although it doesn't seem to get a lot of use.

Re: N54

I've spent most of the day today setting up the parameters of a new php-based forum I bought which will run off MLU's own server. The interface will take a wee bit of getting used to, but in the end you'll find it superior to what we have now, reliability notwithstanding.

Give me another day or two to thoroughly test this thing and then we'll cut over - lock, stock and barrel. I WILL back up the old one for future reference, but this new forum will be "it" from that point on.

Thanks for your patience, and as we of the Rifles' heritage say... "LOOK TO YOUR FRONT!".

G.

What does "Can not post. Empty string", mean?

Jon, usually because the system detected the actual Message Text field was empty. Perhaps you hit Submit inadvertently?

Regardless, this is all soon behind us. I have been experimenting with the new software and I think I'll cut over tomorrow. It seems to work pretty well!

BTW, check your email within ten minutes (of this posted time) or so.

Ah yes, I remember it well...

...did I ever tell you about the time... ?

One of the great movies of all time, Art... the Sergeant-Major is a Minor God. I have it on DVD and watch it at least once a year.

In a similar vein, when the Empress and I were in Wales, we discovered quite by chance that the regimental museum for the 24th Regiment of Foot was ten minutes' drive from where we stayed one night. It was magnificent, and with not all artifacts "under glass". As an example, one could actually touch the infirmary chair which Hook and his comrades had sat in... wow.
