i know most people out there are going to say "get a female" but i think you'd be fine either way. The key would be to take the dog to obedience training and spend quality time with the dog each day. Akita's enjoy being with the family, outside and in. be sure to have a fenced yard that they can run around in too. so some reading and research. i you really want one, consider one of the akita rescue organizations. don't buy from breeders.
