called SA (sebaceous adenitis) that Akitas are prone to. Please take your dog to your vet if this doesn't clear up very quickly with Doug's suggestions, and have him look at it, and possibly perform a punch biopsy (the only way to diagnose it). It probably isn't that, but finding out ASAP is the key to trying to keep it under control if that is indeed what it is. It is not curable, but you can exert some control over it most of the time with the right care. I'm not trying to scare you or anything, but it is definitely something that must be considered with skin problems. Usually a vet familiar Akitas will have a good idea if that may be what it is, even without biopsy. Since we here on the board can't "see" the area, it's hard to make an educated guess.
