Electronic collar

by Colleen

Ed,

Electronic collars have their place in training, but only in the hands of exceptional trainers, IMO, and only to deal with serious problems. If used incorrectly, they can completely screw up a dog and precipitate horrible problems. Since you're talking about a "little" pup, I recommend you work with a non-violent trainer who has experience with (and likes) Akitas. There's no reason that ordinary training won't work, but you will have to put in the time and effort, and be absolutely consistent. The electric collars, again, should be reserved for the serious problems. Also, make sure you train the Akita yourself. Never, ever send an Akita out to be trained. Good luck.
