Doug means well, but I can say for sure that Akita Rescue (whether it is Ironpaw, ARMAC, or any other)is inundated with Akitas with WONDERFUL, loving dispositions that cannot find a home. The foster homes are bursting at the seams and many deserving, sweet Akitas lose their lives for a lack of homes. Rescue cannot and will not take an aggressive dog, period. If it cannot be trusted with it's own family, if it is aggressive with strangers they can't take the liability, not to mention the danger of placing this animal. With so many sweet-tempered, loving ones going without homes, how do you think they will be able to re-home one that is potentially dangerous? They do as much as they can, but even rescue is not blessed with the power to save them all. Colleen is absolutely right, you MUST get expert help immediately, with small children in the house. You may have a hard decision to make, and that decision is not to dump an aggressive dog on someone else to take care of. If you cannot "fix" this dog with the help of experts, and he is not safe to be around, he may need to be euthanized. If that is the case, do NOT put this hard task in someone else's hands. He's your dog, you owe it to him to take care of him to the end.
