Reading over your post again, I see that you put your young Akita in a pen for a week with a strange dog. From your comments about your dog, it doesn't sound like he had any previous negative experiences with other animals. But, you put him in a bad situation (enclosed with another dog, that he couldn't get away from, that obviously WAS willing to fight). Stupid move on your part, especially since you say that they got into a few fights while penned up together. What were you thinking? I would certainly advise that you NOT pen your dog up with another dog again, particularly one that wants to be dominant, unless you don't mind seeing him cower.
