Be happy that your animal is not animla garessive. Before we got our akita we did a mountain of research on the proper breeding and training of this loyal yet stoic dog. you may not know it but you have probably so well socialized the dog that he has suppressed the natural tendencies. the alernatives are devastating - an animal agressive dog can be difficult, and there is always a fine line between cross species agressiveness i.e he would more likely be agressive to strangers if he were agressive to strange dogs. like many other large breed dogs - the beauty is in knowing and appreciating the potential of these animals - many of which exceed 100lbs- and nurturing those qualities that permit others to have a good social interaction with your dog. i would wager that in your home, to a stranger or strange dog - your dog would not display this same behavior. encourage it - the last thing you need is a dog that mauls another animal or kid!
