You may need to take him out just before putting him in and then again 2 to 3 hours later. You shouldn't need to do this for long. When the puppy is small and his bladder is not as big and his bladder control not quite mature you will need to make accomodations. I would also recommend that you purchase some pee pee pads at the petstore. That way, if he has an accident, at least it will be absorbed and he will not have to lay in the wetness.
