My male is a 7 yr old Alpha, and has killed 5 stray cats this year for making the mistake of coming in my yard. 2 of those were after I got my 1 year old CAT. She is the ONLY cat allowed to be in the yard or the house. It took alot of patience and about 3 months to get them acclimated to each other, but I have pictures of them in the yard together to prove Akitas can coexist with cats and small animals. We have also had my neighbor's Chiuahuah over before, and he was O.K. until the dog tried to take his bone..lol. His last companion was a female lab, and we recently got a female Akita after losing our lab and him sinking into a lonely depression (the cat wasn't much consolation). So far the pairing is perfect, but we are working on her acceptance of the cat. It takes alot of time and patience to introduce a cat to an Akita, but it can work, as with small dogs.
