My wife regularly takes our 9 month old male on walks, the other day, a large German Shepard literaly dragged the owner on the street as it was charging our dog. My wife kept running and nothing happened. She is now somewhat aprehensive to walk the dog as she is not sure what to do in the event that a stray dog should attack. Any tips on the common procedure?
Our dog has been great so far. He loves our kids and is surprisingly gentle and protective of our 8-year old son. We attended puppy school, as well as the intermediate class. I have read that there is sometimes a change in their personalities at about 2 years. Our dog is not agressive and is very gentle with his mouth (although he is a very "mouthy" dog). One day while at training class, he barked at a man that stopped to say hi. He told us that he has had 3 Akitas and they rarely barked and that that could be a "red flag". Our dog barks at strangers or other dogs from the safety of inside the house or the yard. He is over 85 pounds but still a puppy and somewhat afraid of other dogs. He was never agressive in training class, even if other dogs went after him. He has been "fixed". Any thoughts?
