Dogs last chance

by

I have a rescured Akita crossed Shepherd. I have not had much experience with dogs and was wondering if anyone could help. Max is a beautiful dog, and is only about 1 year old. He listen well and we love to spend time together. The problem is he attacks other people without warning. No growling, barking or anything, he just bits them. When a friend of mine and I were trying to get something out of the back of my truck Max attacked him. I understand he is trying to protect my property - but he is in overkill. Is there anyway I can rain him back in a little. At least so he doesn't attack people that I am with. Any help would be appreciated - I would appear to be the dogs last chance - as I deal with this or he needs to be put down. Help - as I love the dog and can't bear the thought of him dying because he is overprotective.
