I would definitely investigate it further. Do you know what provoked the bite? Have you taught your child proper manners around a dog? Please don't get me wrong, but since you didn't say, I didn't know if your child tends to hit dogs with sticks. Some kids do. Maybe the kids were taunting the dog. I would talk to the owners and find out what the circumstances were surrounding the incident. It certainly is not something to take lightly. I hope your child is OK and does not suffer any trauma from the incident.
