We have had Akitas for about 10 years now. When our first pair had to be put down due to serious health problem(they were both 11 yrs old)we decided we wanted to have akitas again.
We have a 5 yr old male(we have had him for a year) who came from a kennel reduction and a 2 yr old female ( just got her 4 months ago) from the same breeder.
All was fine untill we bred the akitas.Once pregnant, our female's temperment has changed. First she attacked my Shih Tzu who is an 8 yr old neuter.She went into a frenzy and if my husband and I had not both been there, our little guy would have been dead. She kept going for him and pulled him away from my husband. He picked him up again and she tried again to grab him. I had to pull her back and hold her. She had tollereated him up to this point. he was injured and required vet care for his wounds. I also noticed that she was acting very strange in that she began to pace and bark and growl when someone was near our yard.She seemed to accept that before. She ended up delivering her litter 2 weeks early and none of the pups survived. Since then she has really gone strange. She jumps on the fence and acts like a junk yard dog if children are close to, but outside of our yard. It is like she goes into a frenzy and I have to physicly restrain her. I am in contact with the breeder we got our dogs from and she is very concerned over this behaviour and says she puts dogs down when they act like this. She has a zero tollerance to agression in her Akitas.
I guess I am putting out feelers to get some feedback from others.
