I have just had one of these doing the flickering thing. I found that Q712 had bad solder joins, so I re-soldered them and it worked beautiful, then after I had turned it off and relocated it, it had a lot of trouble starting the tube, took about 5 times of cycling the power before it showed a picture, otherwise it would give a high voltage start up noise but then shut down and have all the static sounds. But now it wont show any picture at all.
With the VGA lead disconnected from the PC, the monitor made a very large elecrical 'crack' sound. scared the pants off me!
Everything else is working perfectly, I can navigate the menu (by memory) and select degauss and I can hear it do its thing, just no picture will come up.
While testing I have seen occasional sparks on the strips that are taped to the tube.
I have resoldered the pins for the flyback, and checked over the board for any other abnormalities but I cant see any. When the tube managed to show a picture it was beautiful, perfect focus, colour, etc.
Any ideas as to what it could be?
Thanks.
Paul.
