Does anyone repair IBM G70?
I need in advice......
I have 11 monitors of this kind, all with the same problem!
the crt is OK but on the right side of the icons it apears some kind of shadow. I replace all the capacitors on the RGB board, and it works better but no good enought.
Any ideeas?
Thanks!

This can happen to monitors once the CRT starts to get tired.

Maybe this is why changing the caps has not cured it.

Check the heater voltage.

IBM G70 and streaking

The streaking problem is common with the IBM G70 monitor.
A shadow or dark streak will be seen to the right of bright objects like icons.
If a uniform color is displayed, brightness will drop gradually across the screen from left to right.
It will drop dramatically it there is a bright object on the screen. This will look like a dark streak or shadow to the right of the object.
This seems to be a design problem with the G70.
Capacitors C818, C848 and C878 on the CRT board are the main cause.
I believe these capacitors are exposed to too much heat and dry out over time.
Dry capacitors develope "ESR" and lose the ability to hold charge.
I had the same streaking problem with a G70.
I replaced these three capacitor and it greatly imporved the picture. It nearly eliminated the shadow problem and brightened up the screen. Only a little bit of streaking remains.
These three capacitors handle the red, green and blue signals. Typically they will all go bad over time. They should all be replaced at the same time. They are all 1.0uF 105 degree capacitors. Replacements should be at least 105 as well. Heat is the enemy of electolytic capacitors.
