IIyama VM pro 410 horizontal fault (help requested)

My monitor bought new in the UK in 2000 developed a fault 2 weeks ago.

Picture initially perfect then after a few mins. the horizontal width of the picture shrinks down on only the left hand side, leaving a black gap about 1 inch wide to the left of the picture. The picture appears otherwise perfect.

The problem can be overcome by using the user controls to increase the horizontal picture size and then re-centering the image. However the problem can spontaneously correct itself and I have to readjust the picture size.

Is this a monitor or graphics card fault ?
If I continue to use the monitor will I damage things further?
I am an electronics virgin. but willing to learn

Any advice would be welcome

Thanks.

simon

This is a monitor problem.

Check for dry joints on the scan connector and a coil marked W??? near this connector.

Sorry to bring up an old topic, bit I had exactly the same problem with the same model. (Iiyama Vision Master Pro 410 / A702HT)

I fixed dry joints on Q503 and it seems to have done the trick. I only had the service manual for the 510, but they have basically the same layout.

Just thought I'd put this information out there.
