Hi,
I got a dell P1110 dropped by UPS(this is a fact). Everything else works except the monitor shows a rainbow color at the bottom half of the screen. I was told the "shadow mask" has been shifted. I don't know what it means. Could anyone tell me if it is worth keeping/repairing or just piece of junk.
Thanks in advance.

The shadow mask is a plate inside the CRT between the gun and the front, this plate or shadow mask is the item which aligns the electron beams on the phosphor on the front of the CRT.
It is easily damaged when the unit is dropped.

that monitor is a sony trinitron aperture grill tube. it doesnt have a shadow mask, instead it has an array of vertically tensioned wires. i had a supermac 20" trinitron unit that had been dropped, only damage was a crack in tha case and one purity magnet had become dislodged. the unit has since been fixed

My Sony TV KV-32DRX9 (WEGA FLAT widescreen) has the same case, it has two rainbows, on the top and bottom going to the center of the screen. We deguassed it but no luck. The only midification I had is twisting the yoke a bit to align the picture, plus a few adjustments on the purity controls at the yoke. Is moving the yoke 1 mm away can create an effect such as rainbows?
Is there a posibilty that the degusse coil can create rainbows if there are
problems on the deguasse circuits? So that if I disconnect the deguasse coil
the rainbows should go away.
