My Dell P1110 died, I would be very grateful for your help.

Please could I borrow some of your expert knowledge.

I have a Dell P1110 21" monitor about 3 years old and it has completely died. As if the fuse just blew, no warning, no funnies, just dead, not even the power indicator light illuminates on the front of the monitor. Power lead is OK and crackles when I put it in / out.

I've opened it up and checked the internal fuse and it is OK. I don't have much knowledge about monitors and would be very grateful for any ideas of how to start fault finding. I have a simple very cheap multi meter and a soldering iron so can do some basic work.

Thanks you in anticipation,

Steve

Your problem could de the flyback or the final transistor. Look arround the flyback, some diodes or capacitors could be damaged.

Thank you for replying to me message, much appreciated.

Sorry to trouble you again with a beginners question, but I don't know where to find the flyback or the final transistor. I presume I should check the diodes and the capacitors with my multi meter and look for open circuit across the transistor leads.

Thanks in anticipation,

Steve

Your Flyback Transformer is the Big Black thing with the RED HT lead coming out of it connected to your Tube, Around it you will find a Heatsink with your line output transistor mounted on it--->Check that the Line Transistor is not shorted!!!

This Dell P1110 is a monitor based on a Sony CPD-G500 G1 chassis is probably the worst monitor you could choose to start to repair as a beginner, it has an unusual power supply and is not easy to fault find on.

Check voltage across C611 approx 150V (110Vac) 300V (220Vac)if this is OK then check V across C610 this will be about 350V if this is OK then check V across C680 this should be approx 7V.

Arno & Richard B,

Thank you for taking the time to help me, much appreciated.

I'll follow your advice and investigate these components + look round for any scorched 'things'. However it sounds like if I might be having a replacement monitor for Christmas.
