Gamma Issues on Applevision 1710

I have been having low gamma issues with my monitor for a while and have now decided to take a look. I am quite experienced with electronics but not monitors, although I understand the risks involved with CRT devices. I was originally going to open it up to search for an internal brigness adjustment, but found none. While in there, i found a cap that has defenifely seen better days. My question is, would this be related to my gamma issues? and if not should i replace anyway?

I understand that there is probably another reason why this cap is toast, but i wouldn't mind replacing it for the time being to extend a little more time out of this monitor. It has been a great monitor and used to have very beautiful colors.

If you have any ideas or replies, dont hesitate to let me know.

Thanx in advance,
Josh

Hi I assume you mean the dark item near the heatsink, I can not tell from the plan view but there is an inductor there somewhere (Drum type).

There is a large inductor to the bottom of that picture on the other side of that heatsink. Why are you asking? The solders for that blown cap are very easily accessable from the back of the PCB without any disasembly at all...
In your opinion should i change this shady looking cap? I can just read the number on the side and i used to work at an electronics repair center and im sure the boys would get me the required capacitor.
Another pic of the location of the cap:

Hi you can change the cap but I would not expect it to change the gamma.

Applevision monitors needs to be calibrated on a mac computer via the ADB connection. If you played with the color temperature setting, you probably have reseted the calibration and disabled the high voltage. Before disassembly the monitor you should plug it on an old powermac and recalibrate it. Make sure the Applevision extension is installed...
