i got screwed on buying a monitor online. they said that the monitor was asis, but did describe a cosmetic flaw in the monitor but they didnt describe the other problem. the monitor doesnt work. it makes an electrical sound, and there is a fuse i can see they is glowing bright blue that flashes coincidingly with the electrical sounds. the monitor does not come on, but the power button does light up. how hard is this going to be to repair?...and dont you think i got screwed here

that 'fuse' i would think sounds like a spark gap. an overvoltage protection device.
without knowing what make/model the unit is and exactly where its occuring, i aren't able to help you as much as i'd like to, but expect the repair to be pricey. at the least your FBT may be gone

This sounds like failed FBT or CRT, probably not worth repairing unless it is a sony wide screen or an apple unit.

Hi,

I think I have the same problem. After turning the switch on, I count for 5 secs then
the circuit makes a swictchy sound and the power LED turns from green to flashing amber.

It could be the FBT has gone ! If anyone know what happens to a monitor if one has
been driving it at hihger Hor. frequency ? say expecting 60Hz but driving at 75 Hz!
This's worked for a while (few weeks) then dies out of the blue !

Anyone has the schematic for Sony Multiscan E200 ?

Regards

/Linh

Have you tried checking the CRT socket...I've many TV's making those above mentioned symptoms, which turns out to be a CRT socket problem..

FYI TV's and monitors circuitry are general the same.. no need to state the obvious..
