Hey Richard,

Got it working. It was a cap afterall. Finally found that calprit. A tiny 1uF SMD cap. Hehe.

Thanks RICHARD! Now that I found it, it was really easy. Learned a lot.
Pretty easy stuff.

Dave

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem with my vg-175. And now I wonder if anyone know the partnumber of the 1 µF Cap and where I can order such a thing ?

Best regards.

More VG175 fixes

No score for this post
January 9 2006, 11:35 AM

almost inline with all the abve messages, the Viewsonic VG175 I've got from a guy who wanted to get rid of it had no image but a lot of vertical lines, flicker, squares, all the stuff you could imagine on screen, and that when it was working for about 5 minutes.

It would have just nothing on screen at power up.

Well, I tried replacing just the 1uF capacitor people reommend on this topic but nothing changed so I basically fllowed up Richard's suggestion and started replacing all the SMD caps focusing on the ones that were placed closed to IC's and ignoring at first the filtering ones on the supplies. After I replaced about 10 of them the mon worked.

Didn't have the pacience to go back and figure which one(s) was(were).

However, I tend to believe that those at the center of the board were the culprits.

Note that I used non SMD caps for this fix but good quality ones wih voltages well above what they had before.

Hope that helps...

Nick

VG175: one solid vertical line

No score for this post
January 29 2006, 6:14 PM

I just fixed the horizontal line / flicker on my vg175 by replacing the 1uf smd cap with a radial aluminum one (a little clumsy to install but it works) So now I am left with this one vertical red line on the far right side and I reckon its something to do with the driver contacts not meeting, and it needs special treatment. In the picture below you will see it along with some cloudy blotches on the screen, so any suggestions are welcome.

The vertical red line is probably not repairable most likely due to poor edge contact.

The blotches I think are caused by pressure having been put on the screen at some time.
