FE700 (model N9705) with blue/purple background and low brightness

Have an NEC multisync FE700 (model N9705) with blue/purple background 100% of the screen. White area is shown as blue/puple color with low brightness. Focus is still good. Unit purchased in early 2000 with 10001 hours shown in service menu screen.

Was using the PC when I see a flicker, then the screen suddenly changed to a blue/purple background.

Went to the RGB to vary the level of RED, GREEN, and BLUE. There is very little change in on screen color if the BLUE level is moved from MINIMUM to MAXIMUM. RED and GREEN will cause the screen color to change. Also turned down RED, GREEN, and BLUE levels to MINIMUM. This results in a blue/purple screen with low brightness.

When the PC is OFF and the NEC monitor is ON, I see a blue/purple screen at the middle of the monitor. The top and bottom 1 1/4" of the screen is black (color of the picture tube).

Under the MONITOR INFO, I see MODEL "t". The SERIAL NUMBER is 000000000. Very strange.

Under the SERVICE MODE, the DISPLAY MODE is "19" with MCU VERSION WT6132V13FE700-180006421.

If I turn the BRIGHTNESS to MAXIMUM, then screen appears like it is being viewed through a layer of white fog/smoke.

Please provide a possible failure mode and resolution.

Thank you,
Frank

This sounds like you may have eeprom corruption, the reason I say this is because the serial number is it different to the serial number on the outside.

Richard,

Thanks for your input. How can I reflash the chip? Could a bad chip cause these problems? Do you know the location of this chip?

TIA,
F

Hi I believe it is IC802 24C04, you will need to make a programmer see here;

http://www.lancos.com/prog.html

But then you will need to get the file to load if you are lucky and request it on the net you may get it.

The other thing is it may have a service mode which you can get into by asking how to enter on the net.

Sorry I can not help any more.

Thank you both for those tips!!! I have downloaded the 190p manual. Don't see any way to reset the system. Is reflashing the chip the only way to reset this monitor?

Is the blue driver circuit on the board (connected to the back of the CRT) defective? How does one go about in checking the RED, GREEN, and BLUE drive?
