hi, i bught this monitor refurbished, its very very nice, i love it, only one problem, the brightness is screwed. in order for it to look normal i have to put he brightness at zero, and zero in display properties. the screen is way to bright. everythign else works perfect on the monitor its only the brightness. when i boot up, with the black background and the xp bootup screen, the black is gray regardless if i put the brightness at zero or not. even if i lower the contrast its still a little too bright. im not sure what it could be. so right now i have the brightness at minimum, and minimum in display properties just in order for it to look normal..so im sending it back and getting another refurbished one..im pretty sure this isnt normal, i hope the next refurbished one i get isnt this out of brightness adjustment.

Common problem with this monitor, which is a Sony G1 chassis. First thing to try is the 'Color Return' function of the OSD Color Menu. To use this function, the monitor must be powered on for a minimum of 30 minutes without going into power save mode. This should correct the problem unless it has gone too far, in which case there is a hardware modification that can be done. search the forum for Dell P1110 (same Sony G1 chassis) and you will get many hits about this problem.

I wouldn't touch it if you are not experienced in monitor or electronics repair. If I were you I'd just send it back and get another; they shouldnt charge you for postage etc if they sold you a defective product.

Their are no controls on the Sony chassis it requires Sony DAS software and an interface or the resistor mod as wayne hinted.

Thats assuming the colour restore did not work.

How did you go with this problem ? My two P260's have the same issue and I would love to fix it. I am technical and so far I have had no clues as to what is causing the fault did you manage to find out what the mods are to fix this I'd love to know it cheers from Rod

Did you fix your problem? If you don't have device to adjust parament change the brightness. You can open the monitor add resister between G2 and Ground. The value 2M to 3M .Chang the value adjust the brightness to match your demand.

Yang is the Man. On the upper right edge of the horse shoe (the board around the CRT socket) is a red wire connecting the boards together. That is G2. Straight below it 2" is GND. Solder a 3m ohm resistor between them. 1/2 watt even 1/4 watt will do. I tried 2m ohm and it was a little too dim. I had to adjust size and focus again, but this monitor is well worth it! Thanks for the tip.

Doing this is not a good idea as it put more load on the EHT generation circuit possibly leading to failure.

Its best to change the feedback resistor(s) to the G2 regulator - do a search for the dell p1110 it uses the same chassis. You need to lower R459 (10meg ohm) to around 6.8meg ohms.
