Have a old Dell P991. Powered off my pc and the monitor stopped working. All that happens is that the power light blinks green and a soft "chirping" sound eminates from the monitor somewhere.

Is it trash material?

TIA

Unless you are able to repair it your self the chances are that it would cost at least half of the price of a new unit to be repaired.

If the unit works sometimes then fail's then it may be a capacitor that has died, if it is like it all the time then fault sounds like a failed semiconductor or EHT transformer.

I can not be more specific as their are at least 5 major parts in different circuits that would cause the exact same symptoms.

Says a blinking green light is "aging/self test". Try holding down the middle button while not connected to the computer. Maybe it will work again.

If you can't get it to work,

Follow my howto on how to free download Sony DAS/Sony WinDAS/Sony Win DAS, un lock it, and use it.

I cover how to build the interface cable, you may already have such a cable as it is common for cell phone data cables, electronic organizers, etc. You can get everything you need for 15$ or less on sites like jameco.com . No need to remove the monitor cover!

Should be able to get it to boot up again, or see what went wrong in the failure log. You could clear the failure status and it'll probably work. There is an "aging/self test" procedure in windas.

Not sure what you mean by chirping, there are more serious blinking patterns (amber in color) that mean ("HV or +B","H Stop or V Stop or correction capacitor","ABL")

So you could rule those out.
