Hi there, I have recently been having problems with my HP p1130 21" flatscreen trinitron monitor. It degausses on it's own at random times, and flashes approx. 3/4" (2cm) thick horizontal white lines at different hights on the screen at various times (there is a glass-tinging sound each time a line flashes). It will also go blurry and refocus about 2 seconds later at random times. There is a green hue to the screen, so instead of black when my computer boots up, it's a blackish-green.
I tried replacing the monitor with the exact same model and it still has these problems. The monitor I had before did not have a green hue to it but had the same problems. I also changed my video card, and there was no change.
When I called the place I purchased it at, they said that they tested the one I exchanged and there was nothing wrong with it.
I have a subwoofer which is not magnetically shielded below the monitor, but it is at least 2 feet away from it (the distance that the speaker manual specified for safe operation -ie. not affecting the monitor).
Are these symptoms evidence of a magnetic effect? If not, what could be wrong with my monitor? All help is greatly appreciated, thanks guys.

I assume you have purchased an Out Of Lease monitor of the sony cr1? class. These include the HP and Dell p1130, Sony g520, etc. There seems to be a problem with these. It seems to be a short in the focus grid and/or flyback transformer. The condition will get worse with the unit staying out of focus for longer periods untll you get so fed up losing focus while dogfighting online and dying a horrible death that you will heave it through the nearest window and then calling an EMS for a slipped disc because the thing is so bloody heavy.
A shame since the picture quality when working is great. Since the cost of the flyback is high and the cost of replacing the tube is not worth the effort AND the cause hasn't really been pinpointed, I suggest trashing it. If you really like these (as I do) you can still get them cheap as there are many more floating around in the $50 range.
Good Luck!
