Does anyone knows what causes that loud "pop" on the Sony GDM-F520? It occurs about 2-5 minutes right after the monitor is turned on, and it starts with the image having some mild distortion, then looks like the image is going to go out, then the "pop", and then no problems after that... If someone is familiar with this problem, and knows tha root cause of the problem, please let me know.
Thanks in advance!

The probable causes were either the CRT or flyback (FBT). Tube checked OK, and in this case, the problem turned out to be the flyback. The load "pop" was due to a spark generated at the FBT's focus/V wires attached to the A2 board at the neck of the monitor. Since the loud "pop" was taking place within five minutes afer the monitor was turned on, I opened the cabinet, removed the CRT shield, and stook still for a few minutes watching the neck of the monitor (A2 board) for activity, and the spark which appeared within seven minutes was loud and a good one.
Replaced the FBT, then the new flyback tested OK, and so far, no loud "pops" yet.
I want to take this opportunity to thank Richard for his feedback on this matter. Richard: thank you so much for your valuable assistance!
Sincerely,

The flyback should run you at about $80-90. Unless you are an experienced tchnician, removing/replacing the flyback on these units is not an easy task. I recommend to have it serviced by an experienced technician, as the inside of the monitor have high voltage components that can discharge energy enough to kill.
Hope this helps...
