i have a DCLCD 19" monitor that went went out a few days ago.

fromt he person who was in the house at the time, they discribed a "clicking" or "russling" sound comming from behind the screen. Then the APC battery powered power striped sounded an alarm which ment there was a power short/ failure.

now the unit will not come on. no LEDs, no sounds, no burn smells.

i took the unit apart and i have the power board out. but i know next to nothing about electronics past operation of the unit.

i have sent an email to the manufacturer to see if they would sell to me ,or point me in the direction of where to find the board (if thats the issue) but i dont think i'll get anything from them.

SO. i have a meter. but not really sure what i should check for.

any tips?

PIC of the power board:

Tell me what is written on the circuit board near that component, it could be something that has no connection to your problem.

well right above that heatsink / sheild thing it says: "For continued protection against risk of fire, replace only with same type and rating of fuse".

directly to the left of that item it says: "T3.15a/250V" (which i think is talking about the power socket.

to the right i see: "F101" and "C102".

currently i decided to un-solder that peice and take off the heat shrink stuff. that black thing has a marking of "F - (50)".

thanks for the input.

That is a thernistor and it protects the circuit when the heater becomes to hot.

Sorry that is no thernistor that is a capacitor and current can't go trough it. Not that component is the problem.

What you have in that picture is a fuse. Usually something very wrong causes the fuse to blow, if you replace it with a similar 3.15A fuse and that one blows, its also very likely more of the circuit will blow up first.
