Samsung 997MB is way too bright!

I've had this 997MB (same model as 997DF, 19" CRT) for about a month now and I'm not very happy with it.

The problem is that it's way too bright. I have the brightness set at zero, yet when I run a game that is predominantly dark (like Thief or Doom 3), it looks grey and washed out. Nearly every other CRT I've used is capable of displaying a true, perfect black level, but this one cannot.

I've tried adjusting every setting in the OSD, and used all sorts of colour/gamma-adjusting software to no avail. It seems that there is a minimum level of brightness that this monitor must display, and it cannot go below it. It's kind of like an LCD with a better-than-average contrast ratio.

Is there anything I can do with it? It's under warranty, but I don't even know if a repair shop could fix the problem.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer!

If it is under warranty then complain and get then to replace/adjust it.

Samsungs use software screwdriver for set up called softjig this is run on a PC with a harware interface to adjust all settings on the monitor.
